    Two muppets.

I sleep with my head resting on the back of the seat in front of me so I don't mind when the muppet in front reclines their seat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,817 ✭✭✭Raconteuse

During meals it shouldn't be done but outside of that, even though I don't do it, why is the option there? It's annoying when the seat suddenly slams down in front of you, but I guess it is something that's there to avail of.

No reclining on a Ryanair flight.

80 minute flight? She could have just left it upright or reclined “slightly”.

    In summary, they’re both idiots.

If the seat reclines you can't blame someone for using it.

He looks like an absolute asshole and had no right to keep hitting her seat like that, but I'd love to see what happened before it was filmed.

Reclining seats exist to be reclined. Why else is the function there? As some temptation to test passenger's willpower?

That said why was the man offered a complimentary cocktail and the woman reprimanded by the airline staff? Who knows what actually happened.

    What say you?

It's the airlines fault for having reclining seats. Reclining you seat is a selfish dick thing to do BUT if airlines order reclining seats then people are entitled to recline their seat

Did the guy at any point politely ask the woman not to recline the seat anbd point out that it was makign him uncomfortable...? What happened to good old fashioned conflict resolution?

"He was basically given permission to continue, and there was nothing I could do about it" - well, there was somethign she could have done....

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The United Nations has reportedly told its staff in Chad to watch out for people sporting an unusual perfume or a face tan broken by a freshly shaven beard, unveiling a lighter skin shade, as they could be aspiring suicide bombers.

I think the same but I also think I would be a bit more considerate if the person behind me had no space to recline. I always ask if it’s okay if I recline and there’s usually no issues.

But yeah, weird that she was reprimanded and he was given special treatment. We’re clearly not getting the full story.

Also the fact that she calls the whole incident an “assault” is enough for me to write her off as a complete drama queen.

I was expecting to see him going all Tyson Fury on the seat but he was only nudging it and it looks like it was only for a few minutes.

She sounds like an attention seeking geebag looking for her 15 minutes of fame with her "scared to death" of the flight attendant.

Looking again, the problem seems to be the fact that he is unlucky that his seat is backing onto the bulkhead so he himself cannot recline at all to get some more space himself. It’s a pain in the neck, I’ve been that passenger but I think he has anger issues. Just needs to suck it up. The likelihood is the lady won’t have realized that she is causing any discomfort, just using a feature of the seat to enhance her own comfort in the way it’s designed.

At the end of the day, he just needed to tap her on the shoulder, impress on her the discomfort he was enduring as a result of the severity of her recline, suggest that she’d moderate her angle appropriately and possibly as a sweetener... buy her a gin and tonic. ;)

Seats on some Planes recline, get used to it. Or earn some more money and get yourself a better one than the back of economy.

Woman reclines seat on plane. Man gets annoyed and starts to thump her seat for the duration of the flight. He was seated at the end of the plane and had no place to recline.

In a mutual display of petulance, I don’t think either of them come across well. But she seems to think she was in the right here? There is a special place in hell for people who recline on plane seats as you’re eating your dinner.

    What say you?

On low cost you can book two seats so you can go sideways.

Long haul I try to get the ones at the front with the extra leg space.

Yeah, it's problematic travelling with riff raff. If you have a good salary you can avoid the lower tiers of society.

You see this is problematic. Doors can be slammed, does that mean we shouldn't have respect for our fellow humans walking behind us? Seats on public transport are there to be sat on, does that mean we shouldn't stand up if someone more vulnerable or frail comes along? There's no law against heating up canned sardines in the office kitchen, does that mean we should unleash that type of torture on our fellow workmates?

This is basic human decency 'don't be a dick' stuff. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

I’m relatively tall so reclined seats impact me more than others. I also usually try to sit at the back of the plane and if the person in front reclines then so be it.

They paid for their seat so why shouldn’t they get as comfortable as possible.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 155 ✭✭Ladybird18

    Both are wrong.
I normally get off a flight like someone who has had a mini stroke if I need to sleep, as in I sleep upright or against the window but never recline.
Results in crick in neck and drooling.
    He was just an a**hole.
He could have just used his words "can you put your seat upright please?"

I'm short, so it doesn't bother me if someone reclines. I think that's why my attitude to it is against the general consensus here.

Personally I don’t recline my seat on short haul flights. However if I do to recline my seat on a longer flight I’ll do it slowly and gently so the person behind me had time to react. I’ve had people slap the seat back violently and it’s really annoying.

He's not unlucky. He chose that seat, even if it was indirectly. Select your seat before you fly and don't get stuck with a seat that doesn't recline.

Yeah, I've had people nearly break my laptop by shoving there seat backwards violently without warning. Can't see why you wouldn't just recline slowly...

I'm 6'2" so will happily recline my seat. Quick glance to make sure they're no eating. I don't feel like I have to ask the permission if the person behind me - what happens of they refuse at the start of a 13 hours flight? . In saying that I was on a flight last year in to new Zealand from Hong Kong. Had a few Muppets behind me banging my seat deliberately while I was trying to get some kip. Quick words. End of that.

Did he ask her to move even a little bit forward? She, more than likely, would have just said ok and moved a wee bit. Problem solved.

He looks like a petulant, entitled, little beardy millennial cunt, that needs a good clatter across the head though.

My penny to your pound he wouldn't have done that shit if it was a 6ft guy sitting in front of him.
