Physical work capacity test

    Hi

I did the PWC VO2 test the other day - ergometer bike and heart rate watch roughly 15 mins. I got a rating in the poor range on this test. I was a bit surprised as I go to the gym pretty regularly and found the test not a challenge and heart rate did go > 120 bpm. I found limiting the RPM between as low as 60-70 a struggle.

Resting heart is low for my age but the flip side is BMI needs more attention.
    Any extra knowledge here appreciated.

Which PWC test? There are a few.
But as far as I know, they’ll all sub-max tests. So shouldn’t feel hard. The idea is that they use HR and output at certain intervals to estimate output at a target heart rate.

    What HR/Watts were you outputting?

I didnt see that on the bike not a whole lot I would imagine given the challenge to keep it at between 60-70% I would imagine the last 3 mins were at 10-11 resistance on a standard exercise bike

I will recheck on a standard bike as follows

Was this a program built into the bike?
I think I used a built in program before, it ignored heart rate and based it on the ability to stay above a certain RPM at increasing watts. The heart rate method would be more accurate.

It was on an ergometer bike with four graduated increases in effort for 15 mins keeping rpm at between 60-70

Did it just stop after 4, or was that when you could no longer keep it above 60RPM?
If the latter, that was similar to mine. I'd imaging the result is flaky enough. Try a different one.

There were four sequences which graduated up ending at 15 mins but it was required to keep it at between 60-70 rpm which was difficult only in the sense that it wasn’t a challenge

If you use the rowing machine, your time doing the 2000m is a VO2 max test. The concept2 website has the tables to calculate
