After the plumber came in...

Hi,

I had a plumber coming in for a gas boiler service. Heating radiators work by gas and he checked them. So far... so good...

I asked him about all the valves around the boiler, basically to know what is each for and its function. There was a moment that he actually got back to me saying..."You are asking too many questions..." WTF! I just want to know what is each valve for in my house. I'm paying you for fixing and letting me know too...

Anyway, he just answered for 2 valves: one for cold and hot water... but there are other 4 in there.

The expansion tanks are located in the attic, so there are 3 tubes coming in down.

Now, he said that I should never touch the valves (¿?) and it might be good to install a thermostat timer where the boiler is so once the water goes down 65 ºC, it sends a signal to the boiler to heat it up?

You need to know what the hot & cold is in case there is ever a leak & you need to shut off the water. The heating valves I assume are the filling valve and coil valve at the bottom of the cylinder. He's right you should leave these alone. I assume that they are set correctly & if anyone messes with them then it could upset the balance of the system. Some rads might fail to heat up.

Thanks. I've been asked by the plumber to install a thermostat in the boiler because he said to keep water over 65ºC. Does it mean the boiler will work the whole day? What's the function of the thermostat-timer?

Basically it will turn off boiler once water hits 65 degrees . I have one

Find a new plumber if possible. That one just sounds like a twat who thinks you are not capable of knowing what each valve does. In your own home!

You're right. Very upset with him even today. 24h after his visit, I asked him to explain what these switch are for:

He replied to me telling me that I should have asked him yesterday... WTF! He's the first plumber I ever called here in Ireland and so far... my worst experience. I have no idea what these are for.

Count yourself lucky you got one.

I was in the electrical trade, knew a few and asked a favour to come out and help with heat in my dad's as our mum just passed and ended up no hear for near 2 years.... They were all too busy....

Oh and not looking for free either full payment would have been there.

It's exactly like that now where they just won't take small jobs.
