Brothels now legal in Ireland ?

I noticed a load of brothels aka "massage parlours" have popped up around Dublin.

How do these establishments not get closed down by the Gardai ?

I thought prostitution was supposed to be illegal in Ireland.

Brothel and massage parlour are not the same thing, a dictionary will help you understand the difference.

As long as they aren’t drawing any attention to themselves or making any trouble, Gardaí have better things to be doing.

Kind of stupid to pay the charges in a brothel and risk a conviction from the courts if all you want is a massage, don't you think?

How could they catch you paying for sex if you dont pay for, or have, sex?

I guess being in a brothel during a raid may be an indicator.

wouldn't a lot of these places close down if they weren't frequented by the legal profession :pac:

I can't see why at 70 euro they'd even need to bother being a brothel. Boom times are back, and there's plenty of women (and men) out there, who will pay 70 euro plus for a decent massage.

There's a place on the edge of Temple bar that I've read is a brothel but I went in there for a massage (before reading it was rumoured to offer additional services).

NO such activity while I was in there anyway...

The lap dancing joint around the corner does provide "additional services".

A mate of mine went there and ended up spending 300 Euro on "additional services" when he was pissed drunk.

Don't scatter the pigeons: it's handy for the guards to know where they are.

I heard a radio program , it said gardai wont arrest a someone who is selling sex,
eg unless theres at least 2 women there .
eg one escort in an apartment will be left alone.
IF theres 2 or 3 they can arrest em for running a brothel.
i think the gardai are busy enough ,dealing with gang fued,s , drug dealers,
arresting escorts is not their priority .
if an adult want s to pay a woman for sex whats the big deal?

I've always presumed that these places offered extra services since I didn't think there could be enough demand for back rubs to sustain so many. Then again was always puzzled if that was the case, how could they trade so openly.

I guess another thing I'll never I understand is how Moore at can sustain so many phone shops either.

That doesnt say he was just in a brothel. He was convicted of paying for sex. They would presumably need some form of evidence that hed paid for sex.

Funny story, my wife's great uncle sold his house in Limerick to a Chinese fella who owns a takeaway across it. He turned it into a brothel but you have to make a booking in the takeaway.

Much like the myth that prostitution qualifies as a profession, the phrase that refers to it as the world’s oldest profession is only a recent thing -

The oldest profession in the world (or the world's oldest profession) is a phrase that, unless another meaning is specified, refers to prostitution. However, it did not acquire that meaning universally until after World War I. Formerly, various professions vied for the reputation of being the oldest.

IMO hunter/gathers is the oldest profession. Prostitution not so much.

It's the one beside the Triple Crown bar on Athlunkard street next to the credit union. Only one there so not hard to find!

I think a great compromise on the whole legal/illegal thing would be a kind of hinged lever with a fake hand or fleshlight attached to the end.

And the 'masseuse' sort of waggles the handle up and down. From the next room.

Or just a piece of string through a loop. And the masseuse just yoinks the string.

If you could do it in the dark then even rhuama would be alright with it.

There are a few around Limerick City centre.

If you think they are all above board, I've a bridge to sell you.

The cops are letting it slide. New liberal Ireland and the people who own the establishments know it and just get on with it.

A mate of mine in college blew €2,200 in a lapdancing club in Munich at Oktoberfest. He had the cash on him as his student debit card wouldn't work on the continent. Instead of giving it to one of us to lodge it and doll it out to him as needed he went on hols with a wad of cash.

A few of us went to this crappy lapdancing place. At one stage I seen him, shirt half off bottle of champagne in hand and three strippers hot on his heels. I tried to get him out however he only got thick with me so I left him at it.
I went back to the beer tents, pulled this doll in one of those beer wench outfits and a good time as had by all.
Caught up with my buddy in the camp ground the next morning, slouched in a puddle of misery with two twenty cent pieces to his name, looking at them forlornly.
We all subbed him the rest of the trip.

First they came for the socialists...
