Anyone here addicted to coke and fizzy drinks?

I used to be addicted to coke. I enjoyed a can of coke most days. I was going through a bad time and I liked a can for the energy boost it gave.

Thankfully I have kicked the habit now and cleaned up my diet of other trashy/sugary foods.

I look in the mirror and I feel disgusted and ashamed and I come to near tears looking at my teeth. The teeth are there in my head and there's no major damage or big chips gone, but all the same they are yellow with weak enamel and showing signs of wear. Them 'acid erosion' toothpaste ads on TV, I thought I would be immune and it would never effect me but I was wrong.

Are you addicted to coke or other fizzy drinks or know anyone who is?

One can of coke a day??? You weren’t addicted, you just liked the taste and drank a can every day. That’s not an addiction. Don’t be such a drama queen!

Yer wan on Operation Transformation drank 12/13 cans of coke a day. She woke in the middle of the night and drank a can (which she took to bed with her) As soon as she woke she opened a can. That’s being addicted. She was like Julian on Trailer Park Boys, she always had a can in her hand.

I used to drink about 8 litres of coke a day for quite a long time, now though just the odd bit but would drink energy drinks alot, well one or 2 cans a day, when I was in school drinking cans was too expensive I used to just bring 2 litre bottles in my bag, it weighed more of course but the savings! Madness to think now between 6 to 8 litres a day if not even more for 6 years maybe

I'd drink a can or two of Coke Zero every day alright. I like the taste *shrugs*

I drink fizzy drinks a good bit, but I'm not addicted. I don't drink tea or coffee, and there's only a certain amount to water you can drink. I'd usually go for the sugar-free option (even if they have other dodgy chemicals) although orange fizzy drinks should never be sugar-free.

OP, you sound a bit like (usually) Americans you'd see on telly thinking they're alcoholics because they've have 4 or 5 pints on a night out.

I drink 1 or 2 cans a month, whenever we get a takeaway

I'm worried about my teeth and the damage the drinks made, that's all. My life is so boring now trying to mind my teeth - no drinks except for water, milk and unsweetened tea.

Used to drink a lot of coke but now I drink sparkling water, could go through 2 litres a day easily enough.

I am addicted to cola. Always been diet colas too. Never liked the real stuff. I could drink two litres a day easily. Still could if I allow myself, probably still drinking a litre a day. I always had problems with my teeth regardless, which kinda makes me think "sure might as well".

Wow there was a time I used to drink about a litre and half a day and I thought I was about as bad as it got. Been drinking a half litre most evenings for the last few years but quit for New Year, switched to flavoured Bulmers, which I'm hoping doesn't have quite as much sugar. :o

Thankfully avoiding a Coke addiction by drinking Pepsi Max every day.

I'm not addicted. I'd only have maybe a couple of cans of coke (original with all that lovely sugar) a month

But I do find that when I have one, I really crave more later/the next day. Can see how people get addicted.

I work with a girl and we work 24 hr shifts. She goes through 2 x 2ltr bottles of it every shift. It's incredible. I can't stand the stuff

Long busy days/tiredness/exhaustion/burnout had me relying on a daily can for energy - I have more energy now with a diet that's cleaned up and loads of water - either tap or bottles of still water.

I don't think you were any way addicted OP.
You'd be amazed at the amount of people who drink well over 1 liter ever day and even more.
It's mainly because it's so sweet and it sort of keeps you going. Tea,coffee, etc just don't have that same sweetness in them.

I love Coca Cola but try to avoid it as it's bad stuff for the teeth all right. Not just the sugar though - the fizz is bad for them too. So any carbonated drinks - diet versions, sparkly water, are advised against by dentists. And of course the same applies to beer and sparkly wine. But feck it I won't be cutting any out completely any time soon. Moderation and looking after your teeth (floss!) is the best you can do - unless you abstain completely, and feck that!

Try to keep it to a couple of grams on the weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,211 ✭✭✭✭ILoveYourVibes

    Yeah.

I am drinking it four days a week right now. I hope to give it up totally. I find I am substituting it with coffee though which is not good either.

Yup, definitely. During my heavier days, I was drinking maybe 15 cans of regular Coke a day. Tried Diet Coke and didn't like the taste. They they brought out Coke Zero, and I eventually managed to change to that. The weight took a drop almost immediately. Have since switched to Diet Coke and can't drink regular/zero any more. The regular is too syrupy and you can feel the sugar coat your mouth. But I'm also down to about 6 cans a day, unless it's a day off and i've the house to myself, in which case I could easily go through 12 or more.

I don't really drink anything else. The odd cup of tea if it's really cold and my chest is refusing to bring up the crap from smoking, loosens it up, but that's only if I'm feeling a bit sick anyway. Can't drink regular water. Like my mother, I get terrible acid reflux from water, almost immediately after drinking it. Think my body just expects diet coke and produces the acid to combat it regardless.

Congrats on giving up if it was damaging your teeth, but to me one can of coke a day is not an addiction. Drinking a 2l bottle a day or more that would be addiction territory.

Giving up would be soda pressing.

I swapped Coke for fizzy water. I feel better as does my pocket.

I have a weird confession. I sometimes use them for that.

I am small ...and have a small appetite. Sometimes I know i need to eat ..but don't feel like it. A coke helps. :o

Same as that, you can't beat a can of Coke with a curry chip and quarter pounder, wouldn't think of it 'til the next time which would be 3 or 4 weeks later, a nice little treat :D

Addicted? No. I can stop at any time, if I wanted to. I don't want to, because I don't care what crap I throw down my body. Longevity is of least concern to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

I could easily drink up to 4 litres a day, not every day but would get a bottle at dinner in work, another in shop for after break then cans in boot and 2 litre bottles at home....

When I came off it 4 years ago I was very unwell for near 2 weeks.

    Don't miss it at all.

Was disappointed that the weight didn't go down though, only 2 kilo.

I wonder why it's all the diet stuff for 'grown-ups' who imbibe heavily, like Trump. Surely they can't prefer the taste. Is it diabetes they're mostly worried about, or their teeth?
