Having awful issues in the evening (from 9pm to about 11) with very high latency (200-300ms)…it’s perfect during the day though and never had an issue with their billing or price. I suppose I should log it with them, but I am not using the Vodafone modem which I’m sure they will have an issue with!

Eircom are obliged to provide landline service.

They are not obliged to provide broadband. In my opinion a better way to provide the National Broadband would have been to oblige Eircom to provide broadband for 95% of people and relieve them of the requirement for landline service to the remainder and hand them over to the national broadband, including any relevant poles etc.

Nokia are the ONT suppliers to NBI, so I assume it'll remain in place.

Yep, they’ll reuse the cabling and ONT. Only the router will change. It may not even need a callout, they might just ship a router to you to connect up to the ONT yourself.

Anyone got pictures of the ONT. Looking to make a small.cabinet for it in the garage where my fibre will enter the building.

Here's one I came across a while back. Not a great photo because it was hard to reach and dark, but hopefully you can get something from it.

Thanks, should be able to gauge off the network wall plate. they look slim enough depth wise too.

The ONT is a Nokia XS-010X. It is 135x135x30mm, and sits on a mounting plate which is 135x240x30mm approx.

Have an install booked for the morning with Sky as an ISP. No sign of their Sky Hub (cutting it fine? doesn't seem to have dispatched yet).

Wondering if the Hub isn't here is the engineer likely to cry off the install? I don't even need the hub, plan to plug ONT into my UDM-Pro directly.

Does the engineer bring the Sky router with him maybe? Certainly does for Vodafone install, maybe same for Sky

Most of the guidance in the emails seems to talk about the Hub getting delivered, so I'd guess not

Friend had a recent FTTH install with Sky, and the hub didn't arrive. But install was completed and ONT installed. Hub came the following day in the post and was just a matter of plugging it in. Line was good to go.

thanks! Good to know and sounds like it will go ahead today. Apparently I was to get texts 24 and 48 hours in advance, but got neither. 🤷

After going through 4 different agents, finally got through to someone who was willing to call the provisioning people. As it's a pre-order, the date I picked was just a placeholder and I won't actually have an install date until October. Bizarre ordering system - pick a date for an install but not a real one.

How much hassle would it be to cancel a Sky pre-order and go with someone else (thinking Digiweb)? Live date from NBI is Oct-Nov.

    Cancelled, ordered with Digiweb

Could still be KN Cricet or the likes installing it, so could be all the one TBH. Does your site need ducting or poles installed?

Looked outside this morning to see a team of guys dragging cable down the road that passes my house.

Popped out to chat to them, seen the NBI road signs, vans etc so asked if they could give an estimation of connection time from them putting up the cabling.

Now I appreciate that these guys have no control over progress once they have done their bit, but they said they'd say definitely before Xmas, and maybe at best about 7 weeks or 8.

Would be great, as our estimated time was always July 2025.

As someone who hopefully will have the decision to make in the coming months, can I ask what made you select the service provider you did?

I know once I am connected, I will have various options.

But what influenced your decision? Was it cost? Customer service? Reviews?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭baz9375

Connected with Digiweb based on customer service and responsiveness to queries. They kept in touch after pre-ordering and got text from them the morning of go live date in my area to confirm an install appointment for few days later.

After the initial 12 month period I switched to Arden broadband - again based on their customer service, the fact that they're local to me and they offered fixed IP address at no extra monthly or initial charge.

Both providers allow you to use your own router and are happy to provide support and credentials for this.

Very similar story for me - I went with Digiweb based mainly on their customer service reputation. I'm only on NBI since May, but so far so good. I haven't actually needed to contact Digiweb at all. Everything is rock steady so far.

Well Indigo were finally around surveying my house outside Donegal Town. Yer man gave a "within 2 years" stock answer but still nice to see some movement at last.

well, we finally got our internet installed. GOODBYE IMAGINE. Getting 950 mbps now, instead of 8!

Cant remember who it was that said it in here but someone said there is a likelihood OpenEir FTTH rollout reaches me before NBI.

They were spot on, despite being included in the IA and marked as 2025 - 2026, FTTH is going live next month in my estate. Part of OpenEir upgrading old FTTC cabinets.

Happy days - now I just need to decide on best provider. Sky are cheapest but I've heard reports the stability isn't the best. Tempted to just go for a 1gb packages despite 500Mb being fine.

Time for me to party. Fibre was brought to the pole outside the house a few weeks back and Eir got in touch yesterday to say I should be connected by October 23rd. My connection date on the NBI site is Jan to Dec 2026. Goodbye my trusty 4G router.

Going to go for a 500Mb package as I think 1Gb is overkill for almost anyone outside of a house full of college students. And that's despite me being a techie.

Was comparing prices and it appears the cheapest deal is Eir for €35 a month for 12 months. They do have a package where it's €40 for 24 months. I assume that doesn't make any sense once I remember to switch after the contract period?

Also I assume it's just a case of signing up to one company to just prioritise my connection?
