Any ideas on a side project/hobby for a very bored fella?

    Actually, I am.

    I'm not wearing that hat here on Boards, but I'd still strongly suggest you seek therapy before anything else including medication.

    Oh hah sorry.

    My main issue is the time frame.
    I've exams in a couple of weeks.
    I don't want to go to a therapist for a couple of weeks to then be told I might benefit from medication, so I can then fork out another €50 to see the same doctor.. so I can then get referred.

    I could go and be told no I don't need medication/have the diagnosis, their doctors, I highly doubt they fall into the 'everything looks like a nail when you're a hammer'.

    you are not going to get in to see a psychiatrist withon a few weeks anyway . even privately. not fir ADHD.

    it seems all suggestions here have been shot down by you.

    what do you think the answer to your question is.

    It's unlikely any therapist will tell you to go down the meds only route. Talk therapy is recommended, and after that you MIGHT be recommended to look at meds, but generally therapists won't push someone toward it unless the mental issues are relatively serious and the client is at risk. The other aspect is, putting any sort of anti-anxiety/depressant/etc drugs into your body and brain can have unknown long term negative side effects, so I wouldn't be jumping to meds unless they're absolutely essential.

    It sounds like you want a diagnosis, so if you do, go seek it. It won't change whatever issues are at play.
    I'd advise seeking to figure out what's wrong and sorting that, and I'd also suspect that this drive toward diagnosis, meds, and big projects and a push away from people, socialising etc is a symptom of whatever is really going on. A desire to understand and control the issue at hand, which may or may not include your entire life and feelings toward it.

    Ultimately though, you're the only person who benefits or suffers from your choice(s) so I wish you the best with whatever path you choose.

    I'd rather not let this go on for a few months so I can then wait another few months to see a psychiatrist.

    That the GP should have just referred me to a psychiatrist and a counsellor if he felt the need to do so, not just pass me off to someone to have a chat, essentially saying whatever's up with me is just me overthinking or whatever stupid manifestation they can come up with.

    Had a look at OP's history.

    He wants to be a management consultant now, although recently also wants to join the Gardai or the PSNI, and of course wants to study medicine.

    Says he's been diagnosed with ADHD on another thread, and takes meds. Says on this one he suspects he has it.

    Cop on, OP, and stop wasting people's time.

    1) Learn some useful skills in communicating and understanding other people. Get a few journals and start recording information about the people you encounter. Observe their behavior and determine patterns of behavior, and seek to find aspects about that behavior which can be identified to help you guess what they'll do should the situation arise again.

    How would you go about this exercise

    Could you (with your electrician contacts) get a few of those large wooden reels or spools that cables were wrapped around and (using your woodcraft skills) craft, disassemble one guard, sand and paint them in to beautiful, weatherproof garden tables that would last years left in gardens through the seasons? This could move on to repurposing pallets for garden furniture. Wire them up with nice subtle lighting.

    Upcycling at it's best. For beer gardens and private homes.

    Might mean selling your car to get a van. Whatever you do, best of luck and PM me if you need help with branding and we'll do a contra deal.
