I just read that Michael Flatley who was on the show on Saturday has undergone surgery after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

I hope for a good outcome.

BO'C throwing out the disclaimers to beat the band and sitting on the fence as much as possible as usual this morning.

Good to hear a host remaining neutral and no taking sides.

Have to agree there, one can’t allow a ‘panel’ toss out any auld crud and not try to give the alternative view.

The developer from Cork whose name escapes me said as much.

You'd need the patience of a saint if you were a guest on this show. O'Connor interrupts his guests nearly every five seconds, preventing them from giving proper answers to the questions he asks them. When his guests were discussing the Simon Harris interview in one of today's papers, he interrupted them virtually every time they dared to disagree with Harris with 'In fairness to the government ...' or 'The government would argue ...' etc. While I understand that he sometimes interupts them in order to challenge what his guests have said, he's does it way too much. It makes for bad radio.

Ballsy has now made the two two hour shows on Sat and Sun into mainly one on one ‘interviews’.

Only one hour of panel discussion where Ballsy is like a cat on a hot tin roof.

    Jaysus another noo discussion……….. Bang…

This Alison O'Connor may be a nice person and all that but she is getting money for old rope writing columns for The Examiner and orating on radio panels where all she offers is froth. Not the slightest incisive analysis of anything but pointless repetition of what is obvious and well known already. A pure wafflebag.

I wouldn't disagree with you there

You kinda nailed it there. He truly is an appalling presenter and really should not have this weekend slot. The only reason he is there is because of his agent, who has an amazing ability of getting really poor presenters high profile and highly paid positions, especially in RTE.

The show has really struggled to attract sponsors and it's ad revenue would be very low, hence the long, long interviews which tend to cover-up that fact. They do have a new sponsor now but I think 'buyers regret' will kick in soon enough. RTE are probably hoping a state agency will step in with a little sponsorship bailout (bung). Brendan also is not shy about having lots of his agency stablemates on the show either - yes I'm looking at you Gabija Gataveckaite

And as for BOC being impartial/neutral - me hole!

Appalling presenter, yet he gets 250k from Rte for a few hours work 2 days per week.

And the Indo also pay him too.

Nice work if you can get it.

Sorry to be one that breaks it to you but...

BOC earned was paid €220k in 2019 and that was before he got the radio show. 2019 would have been very few hours on the TV show - maybe 6-10 shows

I'd say his figs for 2020 will be much nearer the €300k pa mark. So that's 4 hrs presenting time p/w for about 40 weeks pa. It's absolute madness!

We'll know soon enough as it is now exactly 2 years since the last top 10 ten figs release although Forbsey does get a bit forgetful at times

Every time I look at figures like that I wonder how do they get away with it.

A heist of epic proportions, carried out in plain sight.

But sure they give us great value according to their boss. They bring in huge advertising revenue. Nothing to see here.

If they’d “poached” Ray D’Arcy, and his team, in the early 2000’s I would understand the money he’s getting but they got him when it seemed he was no longer enjoying the show. He just seemed miserable and fed up.

I have to snigger sometimes when RTE castigate individuals and companies for not putting forward a spokesperson when they request it.

Is there any State funded body so secretive and obtuse about their operations as themselves.

Has anybody here ever got a proper respectfull answer to an e- mail or otherwise on a question involving their modus operandi.

Paying Ballsy €250k for a few hours at the weekend, most of it one to one interviews and liggers touting something.

How anybody could justify that is incredible.

    Unbelievable Jeff.

brendan O’Connors show consists of him playing devils advocate trying to prevent law suits. Same old luvvies on the show his fave being Stephanie pressnier who he calls the voice of the millennials (really) either that or he’s obsessing about how weight. Same boring auld shite

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,052 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

Completely. It’s rare you hear a guest who is even more ignorant and pompous than the host.

Borderline funny hearing his drunken cursing even when BOC pleaded with him to cut out the bad language.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,052 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

Wow. We even got a dublin street ballad about Nelson’s pillar
