    Morning all

    5.00 Wolves Peachey Carnehan

With the short priced Calin's Lad and recent course winner Steal the Scene in the lineup at the top of this class6 Handicap, this competitive race for the grade could go to something at a decent price.

I am hoping that this gelded son* of Foxwedge could be the one to land the spoils at the generous odds of 18/1.
With the very capable* Phil Dennis on top Peachey should be able to get a good berth behind the likely strong pace - a lot of frontrunners/race prominently types in the field - and swoop late to nab the spoils.

Having been punted on several times in his last few runs with funds remaining in the bookies satchels this might very well have the appearance of a cliff horse. However, the very shrewd* Mick Mullineaux, a man who knows the time of day* will no doubt have him primed for a very good run to recoup those losses and also to get the Christmas money in.

Such is my confidence behind this horse if he's not involved at the business end i'm never backing him again..

A 2 Pts e/w bet for me. NAP

    3.05 Ascot Versatility

A more speculative one comes here in this class 3 conditional jockeys handicap hurdle and the pen lands on this Nicky Henderson inmate*. The reasons for this are twofold and not very scientific or form related so smaller bets are advised. In no particular order:

    1. Nicky Henderson is a very nice man and I would imagine he's eager to get a winner for his young (well one presumes he's young) conditional Mr J A Anderson, as it would be a nice fillip for him to appear on terrestrial television at this early stage of his career - all the better if he manages to avoid being interviewed by a gushing R. Persad. Also, because he's an amateur he might very well be a horsey sort ie comes across well on telly and a good representative for Seven Barrows, not that the master trainer needs any more horseboxes filled.
    2. He's towards the top of the market presumably for good reason...

Hence only a 1point win bet on this one.

    Will also do a 1Pt e/w double.

Now for something non punting related which has little or no danger of lightening anyone's pockets; a little bit of self indulgent future predicting (no one likes an aftertimer - I know cos I've seen people get rightly castigated for doing so on this forum, and proper order too).

I predict that a certain retired Irish national hunt jockey who dabbles in presenting and teaching young jockeys will be "very pleased" for young Anderson because....... "He works really hard and it's great for him that he has a trainer/boss like Nicky Henderson that's not afraid to put up a relatively unknown jockey on one of his and I know the owners and they really are a great bunch of lads... oi oi oi , it's madness in here in the winners enclosure... back to Nick and Cesca.. "

Granted the chances of this happening are probably higher than the aforementioned double as this would mean that not only would Fitzy have to be on itv today he would also have to be double-jobbing it as course correspondent and be on the presenting podium also.

gluck if you're having a bet today

Oh and incase anyone hasn't guessed (I reckon some have) what on Earth the *s are all about let me fill you in: The asterisk denotes a racing parlance cliché.. It's paramount for anyone (no sir, not me) with designs on being a professional tipster - and there are some on this forum who, for me, could well cut the mustard in that oversubscribed market - to utilize these at every available opportunity. I counted 5 and that will do for me..

    Good Luck

In the bumper at Ascot i have been so impressed with Soaring Glory in his two starts but even more so lto at the track. I wanted to back it for the Champion Bumper but 16/1 is the current price, was hoping some firms might not have picked up and he be 25/1 plus or so.

Surely some Christmas presents going today? Any UK raiders at Dundalk or Irish to UK?

Debuchet is running in Ascot today. Not sure I'd want to backing him at a short price but it does look a fairly winnable race and he was better lto.

Such a hit and miss horse though, I have a connection for this horse and they even think 13/8 is a bit short to be backing.

Settle for Bay has had a bit of fall from grace in the past year, was fancied to win in Meydan at the start of the year but wasn't up to much. 10/1 could be worth an ew.

General Malarkey in the 2.55 has a squeak, been on the improve of late, on only his third run over the larger obstacles. Fairly priced at about 9/1...

In the delayed 2.55 at uttoxeter a lay bet is recommended on the favourite; there's no way he's a 4/5 shot. I have him priced up at 15/8..

This may or may not be a sh1tpost

Maid Millie a solid e/w bet in the 8.00 at wolves, previously in the ownership of a sheikh and presumably not up to scratch, subsequently sold to J C Hyam cheaply for £4,000. The change of scenery and drop in trip makes this one very appealing as an e/w proposition at about 8/1.

Are the best bets of the day and the best bets of the week usually different? Its a bit confusing.

Setlle for Bay is probably one of my favorite horses in training. I've missed the price though. 5/1 is a tad short.

This race looks like it will be setup for Sirjack Thomas who needs a strong pace and to settle. A combination of the pace and his draw in 6 should allow him to get a nice position and I can see him getting involved here at a bit of a wild price of 20 on betfair.
