    So my sister is a layabout who had a kid and expects others to provide for her ever since, child is 12 now and she hasn't tried to get a job since.

    She got her council house a few years ago and has had a rotation of equally layabout boyfriends living with her.

    The latest one, on breaking up with her cut the power cables on fridge and washing machine right beside the back of the appliance so couldn't be used without the cable replaced. What did the council do when it was reported? Told her to go and get 3 prices of new appliances and then paid for a new one of each for her.
    Like WTF!?....for the sake of a few euro of cable and an hour at most of an electrician time this is the way taxpayers money is spent. Apparently would have been deemed too dangerous to just replace the cable.
    Country is mad!...

    The council hired sparks would cost more than the appliances probably.

    (didn't need to know about your sister's debauched lifestyle btw)

    You wouldn't get an electrician to do it

    Modifying the appliance by replacing the power cord

    Its bullsh-t, Council have f-all to do with appliances.

    The council don't supply appliances, all appliances are bought by tenants so it is quite surprising, even unbelievable that they would pay to replace your sisters property.

    Eh none of this is true. Neither the council or the social welfare buy you a new fridge.

    It doesn't actually state appliances but they would fall under emergency payments.

    My Sister's got two kids, one almost 18 the other 6 that is quite autistic... she has NEVER tried to find a job for the majority of that, and has instead opted to live off social welfare with child benefits as well as aid from the State for the autistic kid... all the while living in my mother's house often leaving it in a state.

    ****ing embarrassment... with zero pride or shame (she used up her daughter's €30k education fund left by my dad for herself)... seriously hate leeches that takes advantage!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 852 ✭✭✭2lazytogetup

    I know a mother living off social welfare. she must spend her time looking up how different things for free (probably citizens infomormation website) as she has the money to drive a 141d large mercedes and a nice iphone. 3 of her kids have their own SNAs in school. nothing noticeably wrong with them. having three SNAs must cost the state an extra 240k a year. And this is just one mother. this happens alot. Apparently people just exaggerate on the SNA application form. while I pay my taxes and all i get are my kids stuck in classes with 33+ kids to the one teacher. largest teacher pupil populations in Europe so these freeloaders can get everyhing handed to them.

    Believe it or not but tenants are given money to buy appliances if they aren't in the property.....

    It's similar to if the washing machine or fridge goes in a LL rental as they replace....

    Nothing has changed.

    There was a guy working security in dundrum and he needed a phone for his safety he got a cheque to purchase one, he also got money towards a car, the sun roof was leaking he got a quote put it in and got €700 in a cheque.....
    He had no problems showing us this either as he was boasting about it how great it was....

    On the buggies thing this did happen but maybe not as much but you would see them with really expensive ones and say damaged a wheel they would just leave it at road side and have a lovely new one few days later....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,868 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

    Easier for the council than some girl going to the papers and blaming da gubberment for her kids been hungry.

    The uneducated would lap it up.

    What a country we live in.

    i think Ireland should adopt something similar to the Universal Credits system that they have in the UK to reduce fraud and make it easier to claim. UK are very happy with it as they just voted back in the Tories who were the party that brought in this system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

    I'd love to see a card system for payment and that it can't be spent on gambling, drink or smokes for example. If they want that let them get a few hours work.

    For children allowance the kids must be attending education.

    People keep saying that the "DSP buying buggies" is an urban myth.

    It is not.

    They do give out cash for that purpose.

    The funniest one is where recipients go into the CWO, and say "I lost my money".

    The CWO has paid out cash based on that reason.

    These are known as Exceptional Needs payments.

    Exceptional and Urgent Needs payments

    2007 = 70m
    2010 = 69m
    2015 = 31m
    2016 = 32m

    See table C1

    Did you watch the channel 4 programme on child poverty?
    Universal credits have caused serious issues for a lot of people hence the fact there are more food banks in the UK than there are mc donalds....

    The UK voted back in the Tories I would argue a lot more due to brexit and the fact Jeremy corbyn is the labour leader.

    One of my sisters is a CWO and yes its done but it's rare enought and they go through hoops to get it, most of her time is spend doing HAP for people.

    It was more common years ago when people were really poor, like with a mother in a rural area with no transport married to an alcoholic who has spend evey penny in the pub Christmas week and she had no food or fuel in the house and other assorted horrific stories which do not occure anymore because we have moved on as a socitey.

    Definition of the great unwashed,

    "ordinary or common people who do not have a lot of money, power, or social status".

    So, what social strata do you occupy?

    Firmly believe, if you are lazy and no obvious reason as to why you are not working , you are given a warning to have a job in 6 months

    If not then put to death (humanely)

    Pointless having them around wasting resources and creating new human waste imo

    Kids can go to

    If they need that help then they shouldn't be using it for alcohol, gambling or smoking.

    It should be to get essential items and food, fuel allowance and many other allowances are provided.

    People that don't earn their own things take everything for granted and don't care for what's handed to them. Just like Social housing thrown to the gutter, my sister reflects that when frequently leaving my mother's house in a state... abusing my mother's patience and kindness.

    Told my mother to kick her out countless times... ****ing hate freeloaders.
