I signed up this way but it was with my normal Irish college course. They just wanted proof I was in college

I wasn't even in college when I signed up to this on the UK site. Just got a student card and picked elearning as the course, when signing up for card.

They might have changed this since.

unreal, dcu mail works, put in the longest possible date on the course so in theory should have £4 a month prime for a good while now.

You get half price Prime for up to 4 years, after the trial.
After your six-month trial, your Prime Student trial will automatically convert to either a £39 per year or £3.99 per month Amazon Prime membership and you'll gain access to additional benefits including Kindle First. You can receive these benefits at a reduced rate for up to four years with automatic renewal.

I already have "full" prime at the reduced rate from Prime Day sale

You don't need to cancel and they even refund the prime you paid for and didn't use. Or at least they did for me a few months back.

I take it you can't share student prime?
I have a prime account that I share with Wife and son, 6 months free would be nice little saving tbh but having to be their ordering conduit would probably make me wish I hadn't bothered :pac:
