Christmas Beers ....

Yeah, sorry to bring up the C-word in early November.

But, how about trying to set a date for us all to get together for some beer (or whatever you fancy yourself) over the Christmas period. I know that's going to be a Herculean task to find a date that suits everyone, but even if we can get one that suits most people that would be great.

So, Fridays or Saturdays are probably the best. There are 7 weekends between now and Christmas, so that's 14 dates. Surely there's one date in there that would suit the majority:

    Friday 8th November
    Saturday 9th November
    Friday 15th November
    Saturday 16th November
    Friday 22nd November
    Saturday 23rd November
    Friday 29th November
    Saturday 30th November
    Friday 6th December
    Saturday 7th December
    Friday 13th December
    Saturday 14th December
    Friday 20th December
    Saturday 21st December

Venue suggestions also welcome, though I think our usual is pretty successful as a venue this past while.

Edit: Poll added - tick all that apply.

You know there's loads of dates there and only one that actually suits me, so prob best to just organise amongst yourselves folks.

Christmas ain't a good time for meeting up on my end what with kids, pantos, etc. :/

I’d be up for this. Either of the first two weekends in December would suit.

November I’m pretty free aswell but Christmas drinks would feel a bit wrong!

Would be good to make some provisional bookings which we can always cancel. Venues do be jammed in December.

I'd say you'd be doing well to book somewhere even now. The sooner a date is picked the better.

It's only 15/16 Nov & 6/7 Dec are out for me, but like Clara, don't book to suit me.

Saturdays would suit better, but if it was decided early enough Fridays are good too.

They have availability on the 14th but need a non-refundable deposit for it, so we need to be sure of the date.

So, erm, find somewhere that doesn't need a deposit? Or set up a paypal thingy and everyone going throws in a tenner or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭MrKingsley

Ah here that is scandalous. is this for oscars?

I understand it for food but its not like theyll be putting on extra staff for 15/20 people max. Plus at that time of year theyll have no bother packing the place out anyway

I could ask a few guys I know working/managing bars in town if you guys like?

    No. Our requirements basically are:

Central so everyone from all parts of the city can get there
    Somewhere to sit in comfort
Not too loud so we can hear ourselves, ie, no loud music blaring or anything
    Table for playing games

    Needs to have beer.

I would potentially prioritize this ahead of the other aspects.

Ill ask around the lads I know anyway and get back to yous tomorrow evening hopefully. Friday at the latest.

Would 15 be a decent estimate or should I say 10-12?

I had assumed beer was a given. :) It's in the thread title.

10-12 is probably what we're looking at, I reckon.

    This happening tonight or tomorrow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭MrKingsley

so I’ve asked 2 places and the big issue is that they will all definitely have live music on the 14th.

And they said that they can’t guarantee that we’d have a spot where we aren’t having our ears blown off.

Sorry guys. I’ve had two places say they have tables but there will be live music as it’s a Saturday and they can’t turn off the speakers for certain areas

What about the week after Christmas? Might suit as loads of people have plans in run up to Christmas but not much after?

Doubt pubs are asking for deposits then.
