So had Bush Jr gotten another 8 years in 2009 he would have turned the whole thing around from losing 800,000 jobs a month and Dow spiralling towards 6,000 to 75 consecutive months of job growth and Dow nearly tripling...

No he wouldn't have done that, and Obama didn't do that.

The Federal Reserve and its management of monetary policy was what turned the economy around, this is well documented.

The US president makes ZERO contribution to Federal Reserve policy or strategy.

The Fed set monetary policy but the executive/legislative branches set fiscal policy. Fiscal policy to fight the great recession was started under Bush and continued under Obama, TARP in 2008, ARRA in 2009 and the JCA, tax cuts and unemployment extensions in 2010. These were as important in turning around the economy, if not more important, than anything the Fed did. Agree that Bush would likely have followed the same path as the economy was collapsing in early 2009.

While the Fed stabilized the housing market by cutting interest rates and buying distressed assets, the main impact (as in Europe with the ECB) of their actions was to blow asset bubbles in equities and bonds and make rich people much richer.

Mod: Use the report function for objectionable posts please. Posts deleted.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

How great are these changes compared with changes made any world leader during their term.

Any changes he makes can be changed again by his successor , which could be in a year.

Just as an observer from abroad, it doesn't seem that the fundamentals of US society had changed in the last 3 years. Americans still love capitalism.

    Can they really though?

So , the next President goes around to all the countries and says "eh.. Sorry about that , promise it won't happen again"

Now that it's happened who will believe or trust the US anymore when it comes to global agreements and treaties?

Trumps behaviour has done lasting long term damage to the US global status and reputation.

Yes , governments change and then change or amend policies.

The reputation of the US was pretty poor before Trump came to office anyway.

Of course it doesn’t matter. It’s the hidden hand that rules the world - ask David icke . Leaders are just faces that look like they make the big decisions
