Awful news that's a terrible junction at the min.RIP.

Would it be right to think that junction is fairly busy with construction traffic for the new hospital?

    Yes very busy.

Rip, thoughts with cyclist and the truck driver

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,671 ✭✭✭jay0109

I must have missed that by about just 10 minutes on my walk to work this morning. It's not a big junction and traffic is light enough this week with the schools off.
    RIP

there but for the grace of God go I, went through that junction not too long before that. there's extra road works on the kilmainham side of the junction this week too, as well as the construction traffic for the hospital.

    RIP to the poor man.

certainly need to be wary of construction sites, there is one on Haddington road at the moment that has caused me a headache or 2, you get trucks doing weird manoeuvres causing the traffic to be unpredictable

That's not the junction of Bulfin and the South Circular, it's the SC and Brookfield.

I pass through the Bulfin and SCC junction every am and this am at circa 8.40 the garda already had the SC going east closed.

Worth discussion but on a separate thread maybe.

Apparently someone in the Journal doesn't realise the South Circular Road goes from Camden Street to the Phoenix Park as their initial report just saying SC road means they might as well have just said southside of Dublin .

It was the Garda press office that released it as SCR and Bulfin road.
When I saw the image I thought they had it wrong as well.

any incident in any sphere is worth reminding one's self to be more careful in particular situations.

What a strange thing to say.

Vigils are generally 'pointless' Just a time for affected people to come together and find some solace in a sense of camaraderie, support and company.

RIP. Used to pass that junction on my old commute and very easy to get left hooked there. Vast majority of traffic is going straight on and right so you're really at the mercy of the exception using their indicators/mirrors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,737 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

There are a number of posts online where people have retweeted historical complaints they've made to politicians about the speed of truck traffic and particularly construction vehicles on that stretch, complaints that were ignored.

The proverbial accident waiting to happen.

Desperately sad news. RIP to the cyclist - my thoughts are with his family.

Protected cycle lanes are well over due in this country. How many more are going to die before they are provided???

RIP poor poor young person. Such a horrendous tragedy.
Didn't know about the vigil or I would have gone.

What a tragic waste of a life. And so young. I can't image what their family or friends are feeling right now.
Sincere condolences to their family and friends.

According to the Irish Times he has yet to be identified :(

    I read that too.
How horrible being the parent/partner/friend/family member of an 18 year old young man tonight and waiting for them to get home tonight, it's absolutely fcuking horrendous.

Construction trucks have figured heavily in RTC cyclist deaths in Dublin city in recent years.

Rest in peace, and deep sympathies to those who loved this man. As far as I know the Gardaí haven't been able to identify him yet, as he was carrying no ID. They are asking for any video footage people may have from the time of the crash.

The Mace shop outside which it happened, at the Rialto gate of St James's, is accepting condolence cards for his family - several were dropped in by local people and cyclists during the vigil last night.

    .

Oh no this is terrible. I wonder could he be from abroad and his family have no idea that he is dead?

    RIP

I keep thinking about the family and friends waiting for him.
    It must be absolutely heartbreaking.
And the 20 minute window of the accident happening, with no one to call his name at the end.
    Absolutely heartbreaking.
