Hairstyles - Thinking of Changing Yours?

They say when a woman changes her partner or career she changes her hairstyle. Not sure if this is actually true. Obviously for guys this is probably not the case but I have been toying with the idea of growing my hair longish - something I haven’t done since the 1990s.

No real reason, just after 20 years of a similar style - blade 1.5 back and sides, short on top and a bit of a wave at the front I’d like a bit of a change.

I had long - shoulder length and longer - hair in the 1990s when I was a student in college. Long hair for young lads was rather in vogue at the time because of grunge music and also the general hard rock/metal scene I was very into at the time.

Got it cut short in 1999 as I looked for my first proper "career" job. I also grow a beard/goatee most winters and shave it off around Feb/March. Having long hair and a goatee in my early 20s also made me look older so rarely did I have problems being asked for ID in bars and nightclubs, and I looked young for my age back then. It was a complete b*tch to condition properly as it got very tangled after washing!! :D

I've had my hair short for 20 years now, there is a lot of grey in it the past few years - a "salt and pepper look" which a lot of people tell me looks good. I have thought of growing it into a "long short" layered style reminiscent of the late 1970s but my OH wouldn't be too keen!
So anyone else here on AH thinking of changing their hairstyle? Got long hair and thinking of cutting is shorter? Or thinking of growing it out? Or changing your hair colour?

I'm actually thinking about going full fringe, I've been toying with it for a few years now and think I'm going to do it as a fresh start for the new year. I also guarantee after a week I'll want my old hair back.

Not thinking of changing it ..its perfect right now. Just keeping it healthy with trims etc.

Ive shoulder length dark brown hair (bits of grey too)

Would love to go blonde - short graduated style.

Problem is I'd lose interest after a few weeks, and if you dont keep those short styles cut properly, they look flat and dreadfull.

I changed mine a good bit, I'm not overly attached to my hair. 2 years ago I went pixie, grew it out almost shoulder long (my hair grows quite fast), went for an undercut, then went for a pixie with undercut and am now growing it out again because I currently dig my natural waves. I bet in the next 12 months I'm annoyed with it again and go short.

I'm not a fan of long hair on men, I'd prefer short hair.

I was blade 2 all over for 10+ years. Decided to grow it a bit and add a bit of style to the top around March/April.

Long story short, I left my wife and 3 kids 2 months ago.

Well, that's quite the change indeed.

I'm changing my hair colour gradually, although unkinder people insist on calling it "going grey". :(

I had this sort afro going on for a few years.
It all started because I got my hair cut short and a relative made a big ordeal out of it and I sort of became self conscious of it.
My hair started graying a bit last year and I got a much short cut I've being messing around with 3,1 2,1, etc. Best decision I ever made.

Might I suggest a reverse mohawk as sported by 'Fraker' in 'Death Wish 3'

    Casual, yet elegant.

Bald can be very sexy. :) My OH is bald and after years of agonising about his hair loss he went for full shaven and hasn't looked back!

That guy in the pic is very very hot!! :D

As a slap-head I'm afraid I'm stuck with the same hairstyle till the end of my time.

Very symmetrical head you could turn it upside down and it could well be him with hair

Every now and then I try to grow my hair but after a couple of months I get annoyed with it and out comes the shaver and it's back to No.1 and No. 3 or 2 and 4.

Anyway couldn't be doing with getting my hair cut every month when Mrs. Beer does the shaves beautifully for free.

Being bald limits one's options on the plus side no bad hair days. Wahey.

Mrs Osis shaves my head ,usually no. 3,every month.
I love the zero maintenance of it.No brushing and sh1t and just wipes dry.
Haven't changed style in 30 years.
Grey as a fcukin badger now though.

22 and I'm not far off buzzing it.
It's happening a good ten years too early but what can be done..
Not sure how it'll affect the dating side of things

A lot better than if you tried to disguise it. It really won't have any negative consequences.

Excuse my ignorance from an old one but what do you mean by buzzing it and are you just cutting long hair short or thinking of going bald?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

My genetics say ill never be a proper slap head but its thinner than it used to be so i find keep it short and kind of messy on top works for me right now.

My point being - if youre a man just be glad youve any hair to style in the first place!

Try a comb-over. The ladies love it.

Meh, I kinda like the look TBH

Most people who know me now would think I look odd with a head of hair :D

Sometimes I get a craving on me to go mad and go peroxide blonde with an edgy hairstyle, I have had the same long brown hair since childhood, now with silver streaks. But the thought of having to keep on topping up the colour and possible / likely scalp irritation (my skin would be sensitive anyway) sobers me up. Plus it might affect the condition of my hair which so far is good. Who knows though, maybe one day I will take a sudden leap. The curiosity is certainly there. Sometimes if I get a shock in life, I cut a fair bit off my hair myself, just all of a sudden, dont know why, like purposefully releasing the weight of the past. It grows back fairly quick.
