Fastest Growing Native Trees

I'm thinking of planting some trees at the side of the house for both shelter and to provide some habitat in what's a fairly barren area and I'm wondering what Native species will give me the fastest results.
I'm presuming Ash, Hazel and maybe Willow would be good species?

birch will grow fast too. can depend on ground conditions; willow will obviously do better in wet ground.

Black Alder if there is a bit of dampness, and you want a more proper tree shape.

Sally or hazel if you want hedge style or bushy.

    Both.

Plant the alder first to let it grow up a year or 2, and intersperse with sallies in a year or 2.

Certainly Willow is fast and cheap to plant - if you take your own cuttings from the locality and plant this Autumn - they should root and come into leaf next year. Coppice in year three and you will have a fairly dense area of vegetation relatively quickly. Add other species for diversity and wildlife including hawthorn, Ash, Hazel, (if you have an alkaline soil type) Holly, Crab apple and Birch.
