I was trying to add ITV via other channels on a sky HD box. While I can find channels and save them, I can’t select them via other channels as it says insert your viewing card? It this another new development over last few years? I’ve been away.

If you are trying to add ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD or ITV4 HD they are encrypted. Only ITV1 HD and its variants are FTA. SD versions of 2, 3 and 4 are FTA

Thanks Gerry, I had the code for ITVHD, it appeared under the add channels screen and I saved it by ticking beside its name. Then I go to other channels screen and I get a message, ‘please insert your viewing card’ . The screen appears to be blank without any channels saved there. In the past a simple list was there and you just selected and viewed. Is this another mechanism from
Sky that only people with a viewing card can add and view ITVHD??

Try rebooting the box after you have saved the channels.

    11053 H DVB-S2 8PSK 23000 3/4 (inc ITV Wales HD)
    11068 V DVB-S2 8PSK 23000 3/4 (inc UTV HD and STV HD)
    11097 V DVB-S2 8PSK 23000 3/4

Hi all, tried that, no luck. I keep getting this insert sky viewing card message. Surely all sky boxes must be doing this? Can’t just be mine. So I am not connected to internet or phone line.

My memory is a bit vague now, but wasn't this a thing that happened if you set up parental controls? Maybe somebody can clarify.

I vaguely remembering something like this, because they had no control of whatever content was on Other Channels, so their fix was you had to enter PIN to view them.

Ok, I certainly didn’t set up parental controls. It’s asking for viewing card when I select other channels as opposed to a pin. The channels are definitively saved as I when I go to add them, they already have a yellow tic beside them.

I’ve tried to do a hard reset twice through installer menu, but not making any difference.

When I go into parental controls it says to insert viewing card also! I don’t think this is the problem?

Byte is correct. parental controls are on
the box asks for it,s viewing card before it asks for the pin.

So next question, any way of turning them off?! If I get a viewing card will that help?!

you need to contact the ebay seller, they might still have the card and know the pin. you need both.

does the box have a wps button on the front panel to connect to wi-fi. (later models only)
if not then you will have to connect by ethernet to your router or by ethernet via a powerline adaptor.
when you have the box connected to broadband do a new install with a uk card in the slot.
