    Hi guys,
I am not Irish and I have to text my my friends mum.
Please can you advise how I can address her?
Where I am from, I would call them mummy if we have a relationship or Ma if not.
Not sure how the Irish do it but I just want to be respectful.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

    By her first name.

I'd go with Mrs X. She'll personalise it herself.

    Yeah don't do that.

But good to hear it's normal in some places. A guy was saying it to my mother in law and we weren't sure whether it was weird or a cultural thing.

    Just use her first name.

We say Yummy Mummy here as a friendly greeting - dating back to the Yum dynasty. It can be both formal and informal.

First name,or just send the message. She'll know it's for her presumably.

Definitely call her Mummy and insist she calls you daddy in return

Thanks for the quick reply guys!
I was a bit scared to address her with her first name as that can be disrespectful from where I am from.
It definitely feels awkward to do that but I guess I will adapt!

You can't go wrong with Mrs Whatever.

I thought maybe she was coming on to ya, and didn't know how to respond.

    :D

Since that not the case, call her Mrs *****, until she tells you otherwise.

I take it you've met her and she was introduced to you with her first name as you already know it. If that's the case then that's how she prefers to be addressed.

Sorry, read the title wrong, thought it was "How to undress Friend's mum."

If it's a close friend's mum, like someone who has cooked you more dinners than you can count, then go with her first name

If you have only met the woman a few times, say "Mrs Surname" -- even if some people think that's a bit formal, she'll probably appreciate your being polite.

    Mrs Stifler

Beyond mrs(insert name here) or what may I call you? works too.
Let her take the lead on the name thing from there, tho most will tell you their name.

Yes, definitely let her take the lead

The traditional greeting is "Hey Sexy!"

Mrs [Surname] or by her first name. If you are not comfortable with the first name go with the Mrs option.

Definitely not mummy or ma (to be honest I think you are on a wind up with this).

I know a few Africans whose community speech patterns are like this.

Yeah the guy who did it with my in-law was African. Ugandan I think.

Is there any chance your friend is called Stacey ? And does she wear a red bikini ?

I'm also pretty sure Pornhub have a section on Friends mothers too.

    Some Asians too.

My favourite is the Arab tendency to call every older woman "Aunty" -- whether she's related to you or not. I even know one guy who calls his Granny "Aunty".
