A shop I used to work in has closed so our staff has been relocated to another one of our shops a few miles away. It is absolute hell in there, and the current staff are treating us like **** in their shoe. We're only being given contract hours now too (I'd get more than my contract hours in the old shop) which won't change for Christmas. It's going to be a nightmare. I'll be stressed as ****, poor and I'm already not doing too good mental health wise.

Is there any way I can get out of this that doesn't involve a nervous breakdown :D ? But in all seriousness though, any alternatives at the moment I can't think of?

Did you go to college for this job?

No. It's an entry level retail job.

Just leave and get another one.

hi op. life is too short to stay working in a crap environment. do your mental health a favour. if you are financially able to, leave now. look for a new job. If you are not able to start looking for a new job, land one then leave.

Brush up that CV and get looking.

    good luck.

Walk away. You'll be fine, something will come up. Nothing is worth living in a situation like that.

I worked within retail for years and used to say the same. Every year was my ‘last’ Christmas in retail. Then, instead of using that for motivation, I instead started thinking about what I want to do with my life and made a plan. A couple of months later, I was starting a new career and only then did I cop I wouldn’t be doing another Christmas in retail.

Point is: while it’s good to recognise and connect with the fact that you don’t like a certain job, it won’t give you the tools you need to make something happen. So use it as motivation to plan from a positive standpoint and think about what you want from life as a whole, or else you’ll just end up in another dead end job you hate and you’ll still have to work there around Christmas too.
