This is on tonight (Thur 19 Sept) it seems, 20:00hrs.

Whilst there is a good mix including Dublin's Fontaines DC, reckon it will be won by Idles@5.0 who are pure class in terms of energy and innovation. The 1975 have already received enough recognition, and are likely off on some world stadium tour again living it up. Anna Calvi has some cred and has been around for a fair while. On the other hand Foals equates to an instant migrane on the Bose headphones.

Am sure there is probably the token jazz ensemble and rapper thrown in for diversity. If there's one voice that can't stand it's that stormsy lad chewing his marbles spitting out sick rhymes.

This prize, like the Turner and other 'novelty events' does require some caution as random wildcards can often win. Years ago, M-people actually won a Mercury for their 'meh shouty pop'.
However last years winner Wolf Alice was well deserved, very excellent.

I'm watching it on BBC4 at the moment. Fontaines DC just finished playing, sounding well too.

Makes a change from middle of the road pop tunage, but as someone just mentioned over on another thread https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057983278 lyric repitition might indeed by a slight negative for them in terms of creativity.

Live market trading indicates a toss up between Idles and little Simz, however anything is possible in this event.

Not to be, 4/5th fav: some bloke called 'Dave' takes (robs) it, the camera went straight to Idles and shocked expressions all round as the robbery occured.
Mixed response on the offical Twitter, someone even asked: "Is this the 1st time a tv channel has won it?"

Black midi gave a really stellar performance too. Anyway hopefully some musical sense of normality will resume next year.
