There's a great documentary about the band Devo that's well worth a watch. A band I really only knew about in passing. This gives a great insight into what informed their philosophy and their attempts to subvert the mainstream.

Watched 2 episodes of House of Guiness last night. Really enjoyable and has me wondering what is going to happen next…

Black Rabbit is well worth a watch. Great cast and performances from Jude Law & Jason Bateman. It's quite dark and bleak, but very engaging. It's similar to 'uncut gems' in the sense of things spiralling out of control, and the protaganists keep making terrible decisions. It has a very moody aesthetic and the backdrop of New York city worked really well. The pacing is a little bit off, but things ramp up in last few episodes. One of the better recent series on Netflix, IMHO. Also, Ed Gein drops today. Am quite looking forward to it, but have had to temper expectations as I've just seen Charlie Hunnam is playing Ed.

I enjoyed the first 7 episodes, the last episode had me scratching my head. So much didn't make sense.

Just finished the Trial of the Chicago 7.

It was trial of 7 members of Students for a Democratic Society, that were protesting against the Vietnam War.

    A travesty of a trial.

One of the defendants (a Black man) lawyers was in hospital. The defendant was denied a deferral because of this. The defendant was not allowed speak on the grounds that only his lawyer could represent him. When he complained, the judge told the police to take him out, and treat him "as he should be treated". He was handcuffed to a chair and gagged in another room and brought back into the courtroom.

The FBI also used a spies and provocateurs, including a woman who started a pretended relationship with one of the future defendants. A riot happened, and that's what led to the arrests.

Having said that SDS probably did commit crimes. One of the defendants flattened a tyre. However, the prosecution was tainted by entrapment in my opinion.

Is Charlie Hunnam regarded as a poor actor. I have only seen him The Gentlemen and Papillion. And didn't take notice of any faults.

I'm far from an expert, but I think he is generally considered quite poor. Personally ,I can never forgive his performance and cockney accent in Green Street many years ago. To be fair though, I watched the first episode there of Ed Gein, and he wasn't too bad.

Wouldn't be that harsh on him… he's been in some poor movies, but as an actor he's quite decent. Excellent at times when given a chance, like in The Lost City of Z, and a smaller part in Cold Mountain. Really liked him in that smaller role in Children of Men too. Quite solid doing what he needs to do in the likes of Triple Frontier and Pacific Rim as well (though the roles/films themselves obviously limit his range a bit). Apparently very good in that remake of Papillon, though can't speak to it myself as it's a movie i'll never be watching. And of course meant to be great in Sons of Anarchy (though again I've not seen it).
