The Pez Outlaw - Steve Glew spent the 1990s smuggling rare pez dispensers into the USA from Eastern Europe, making millions of dollars. It was all magical until his arch-nemesis, The Pezident decided to destroy him.

Interesting documentary about a world most people on this side of the pond didnt know existed. People paid thousands for rare Pez examples. Well told and doesn't outstay its welcome at 1hr 25m.

Thank you for your Service 2017. Is a grim but good true story about soldiers returning home after duty. Stars Miles Teller and strangely there is a small cameo from Amy Schumer and she could actually act in a serious role.

Never Have I Ever really fell off in quality after S1. I could barely finish S3 and probably won't bother ever watching S4

The Big Short is a must see if somehow you haven't so far. Somehow manages to create a bit of humour from the shitstorm that was the crash of the housing market in the U.S. Great performances from Steve Carrell and Ryan Gosling.

Ooh, I never caught Hannibal and the reviews seem very good

For anyone who's seen it, did it keep up standards and wrap up at the end of the third series?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭Mehaffey1

It is a good show, I was under the impression it was cancelled and never really wrapped up by the end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,403 ✭✭✭amacca

Imo the standard was maintained, I don't remember a drop off in quality

I found it to be visually excellent (a feast for the eyes in places), wicked fun in spots, very sharp writing and no over explaining and exposition (so audience not treated like morons) and for me anyway it nearly had me rooting for the manipulative psychopathic killer...no mean feat imo

Great show...Its slipped my mind if it was wrapped up at the very end but I think not and I remember being disappointed when I realised it wasn't coming back for a fourth season....meanwhile utter dross does get renewed...

Ive watched it maybe 10+ times. The story is gripping and the characters are excellent. Gosling in particular I think nailed his performance. Really believable.

I thought it slipped a bit by the third season, to me they seemed to try to make some of the killings OTT for the sake of it. There is some great psychological head f**kery between Mikkelsen and Dancy, I think it was at it's best when Mikkelsen's Lector was still unknown as a killer and he was playing with them.

They're complementary films to a certain extent, but I'd share your preference - The Big Short is good but Margin Call is excellent.

I’m currently on S3 at the moment and I’m just shocked at how terrible and selfish a person the main character is and the writers are still treating her like some poor misunderstood teenager.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 24,016 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

The problem for me with how they write her is that there was a reason for that behaviour in the first season, it was part of her arc, dealing with her dad's death and all that. But after S2 it just feels like they kept regressing her just for the drama and then they'd remind us all her dad died and she's still sad about it. But it just came across as people having to idea how to carry this idea beyond the initial season.

I absolutely love Margin Call. Everyone is excellent in it but Jeremy Irons is *chefs kiss*

I watched Becky last night. Not a bad little movie. Very violent and gory and a bit silly in parts.
Would have liked to have learned what the key was for but I also liked the fact that when Kevin James was trying to explain his Aryan brotherhood bullshit he got a slap across the face
There is a sequel out this year.

Another vote here for Margin Call. A very good film.

Tour de France is a good series for anyone who is interested in sports documentaries. Not as good as drive to survive, but still very enjoyable. Elite cyclists are some serious athletes, great insight into a sport I knew very little about!

I'm 1.5 episodes in and enjoying it. I also knew very little about it but will pay attention to it this year!

99 Homes is another great one around the same story - more-so based on the immediate aftermath.
