Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I flew to London Heathrow off season in November 1984 and the cheapest ticket available was IR£132, that had to be booked at least 2 weeks in advance and had to include a Saturday night stay.

I'm in Stansted at the moment with almost 8 hours between flights (times were changed). Can't check in until 2 hours before my flight home. Landside my refreshment options are Costa and Burger King, that's it! Seating is woefully inadequate, with spaces for no note than 50 bums so we've retreated to the Hilton for a few hours, it's seen better days but it's a damn sight better than sitting on the floor of the terminal.

Yes it is very interesting, and what I was thinking was how far we have come in a relatively short space of time...The Nr's flying as mentioned here, which is only a fraction of the total Nr's, and the destinations... Fantastic !!! I remember from a long time ago, I think it cost 200 Pounds to fly from Dublin Airport to Heathrow... and air travel was out of the question for most of the population. So Ryan Air...take a bow....you have revolutionized Air Travel .

I flew for the first time in 1989, Cork to Paris return with Air France cost me IR£161.00 ( found the receipt recently), I had started a new job only a few month previously and was earning the princely sum of £90.00 a week.

The cheapest flight I ever got was two leg flight to Berlin from Cork via Stansted in 2005 and cost €30.00 return, I think I was just paying for our baggage. I remember saying to my partner that it was unlikely we'd ever fly as cheaply ever again.

Hate Stansted, with a passion, staff, layout, everything. Next time hit the Radisson, only a short walk from the terminal , food is great in the Hilton but Radisson has the wine angels ;)

This one had me scratching my head for a while. I’ve counted 46, but might have been to more than one airport in some of the big cities. I could only think of five countries I’ve visited without flying. It also got me thinking about how many airlines I’ve flown with but remembering them would be tough. Some of these airports I can hardly remember anything distinguishing about them.

    Ireland
    Dublin
    Cork
    Shannon
    Knock
    Galway - a kip

    UK
    Edinburgh
Gatwick - missed a connecting flight once because I misread the departure time.
    Heathrow
    Stansted
    Luton

    Spain
    Bilbao
    Madrid
    Barcelona
    Valencia
    Malaga

    Italy
    Bergamo
    Milan Linate
    Bologna
    Treviso - nightmare queues
    Rome (da Vinci)

    Germany
    Berlin
    Düsseldorf
    Frankfurt

    Rest of Europe
    Stockholm Skavsta
    Copenhagen
    Brussels
    Prague
Warsaw - slept on the floor because I didn’t want to pay for accommodation. Not the only time!
    Paris Beauvais
    Paris Charles de Gaulle

    USA
    Boston
    New York
    Dallas Fort Worth
    Atlanta

    Chile
    Santiago
    Puerto Montt
Punta Arenas - LAN Chile was a really nice airline

    Rest of the Americans
    Havana
    Mexico DF
    Cancun
    Rio de Janeiro

    Asia
    Amman
    Tehran
Yazd - possibly the smallest. I asked someone where I should go to collect my luggage and he just pointed out a pile of bags in the corner.
    Tokyo Narita
Tokyo Haneda - The only time an airline lost my luggage (BA). It arrived a day later though.

As a rule I enjoy travelers tales and I've done a good bit of air travel myself but this thread has me bemused.
I find lists of airports posted by people I don't know strangely unfulfilling.
There must be a hundred good stories hidden away in all those lists but we will never hear them.

What is interesting in the thread is the trend for American airports and regional US airports to be mentioned consistently by posters and the relative lack of the enormous Asian/Oceanic airports like Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, Hong Kong and Beijing. We fly west, not east..

    Just came back from Istanbul.

New airport (Istanbul Airport) is impressive.

As a rule I enjoy travelers tales and I've done a good bit of air travel myself but this thread has me bemused.
I find lists of airports posted by people I don't know strangely unfulfilling.
There must be a hundred good stories hidden away in all those lists but we will never hear them.

I haven't posted all my Airports as too many.

But after a flight from Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok to Dubai i shat myself 2 times in the airport on a 9 hour layover after some dodgy food the night before, which resulted in me having to purchase a pair of expensive tracksuit bottoms and flying commando back to Dublin .

Was my worst flight ever. When they were doing the safety instructions and saying where the emergency exits are , there was only one for me, The jacks.

Thanks for the effort but I find accounts of other peoples bowel movements even less interesting than random lists of airports :)

    Hi Esperello.
Im in the process of getting back on the Camino. Im hoping to complete it in stages. I finished off in Najera last October and am hoping to pick it up there this April. Im flying from Dublin to Madrid and I was wondering would you have any advice about getting from Madrid to Najera.
Not sure if getting a train, bus or even hiring a car would be best.

    Thanks for your time.
    Will

    Google Maps shows a bus.

    94. Awesome thread! Love reading where others have been. Love the list with Ascension Island - can't remember who listed that. It was from there the RAF launched the Vulcan raid on the Falklands in 1982.

I have been to Madrid but never walked the Camino. Too much effort for me :)
Sorry I can't help you. Maybe try on the main Travel forum.
    Good luck.

Although this thread is from four years ago, it's always exciting to share our airport experiences.
