It's finally here, 5 months of football lie ahead. I know it's probably a bit sad to admit, but my life really does change for these 5 months. Late nights Thursdays, Sundays and Mondays, along with sluggish mornings, Friday Monday and Tuesday! Sunday from 6pm is now completely off limits for other activities. Week 1 starts with hope and (measured) optimism, which, if lucky might continue until deep into the season with a wild card push (it is Denver with Flacco, after all)

Week 1 of the NFL season is always so intriguing. Every team will have hoped to improve on last year, but only some will have achieved it. There's normally a few wacky results thrown in for good measure, that will flatter to deceive for some teams too.....so with all that in mind....

Packers @ Bears....Think the Bears will pick up from where they left off last year.
Redskins @ Eagles.....Eagles are hot favs for the division.
Bills @ Jets....two teams with a little buzz coming into the season. I believe in Darnold and Bell
Falcons @ Vikings......think the Falcons can bounce back from a down year last year.
Ravens @ Dolphins....I'll be going against the Dolphins every week, as they are clearly trying to tank.
Chiefs @ Jags....interesting to see what the Jags can do with Foles, but the Chiefs are a class apart.
Titans @ Browns....Dream Team Browns with easy win to start the SB train rolling
Rams @ Panthers....Gurley is spent, and think the Patriots showed a way to beat McVay's offense.
Bengals @ Seahawks...Seahawks D (front 4) is awesome and should be an easy win.
Colts @ Chargers....Last week I might have picked the Colts...Damn, they were so promising looking 7 days ago.
49ers @ Buccaneers....Hurricane be damned...This should be an interesting one, as both teams have high hopes this year.
Giants @ Cowboys....Giants are also in rebuild mode. I wonder how long into the season they keep Eli in there.
Lions @ Cardinals.....I'm really hoping Murray has a RG3-type rookie season. That was so amazing to watch unfold.
Steelers @ Patriots...Pats at home after months long lay off? Shoo-in for New England.
Texans @ Saints...Texans in a bit of disarray sans GM. Another year of Watson wasted? Saints are too talented at home.
Broncos @ Raiders....I really hope we can beat the Raiders or this is going to be a long season. Hopefully the D can perform.

    Thursday Night 1.20am

    Packers @ Bears
    - Packers winning this one in a fantastic close season opener.

    Sunday 6pm

    Redskins @ Eagles
    - Eagles steamroll them. Haskins has a dodgy debut.
    Bills @ Jets
    - 2 bad QB's play bad in a Slug gest. Jets win because they're the home team. Bell looks good.
    Falcons @ Vikings
    - Vikings by 7-10. Atlantas Offensive play calling looks questionable.
    Ravens @ Dolphins
    - Ravens D gets it done. Fitz magic looks magic. Camera man spends more time focusing on rosen though.
    Chiefs @ Jags
    - Chiefs win, but Mahomes doesn't play as well as last year may imply.
    Titans @ Browns
    - Browns win and this hype train is through the roof.
    Rams @ Panthers
    - Rams win, but don't look like SB contenders.

    Sunday 9.05pm

    Bengals @ Seahawks
    - Hawks win.
    Colts @ Chargers
    - Chargers win. Colts fans claim they'd have won if luck was playing.

    Sunday 9.25pm

    49ers @ Buccaneers
    - tough to call. I like Arians so I'll go with the Buccs.
    Giants @ Cowboys
    - Dak looks good here. Who needs zeke??
    Lions @ Cardinals
    - Not biased (I am) so I'm going with Kliffs air raid offense. I'd say Golliday gets 2 tds for the lions though.

    Sunday Night 1.20am

    Steelers @ Patriots
    - Pats. Sound and steady performance. N'Keal does nothing though.

    Monday Night 12.10am

    Texans @ Saints
    - Cracking game, loads of scoring. Saints pull away though.

    Monday Night 3.20am

    Broncos @ Raiders
    - Raiders. Slug fest.

You're the same as me. Until February my Sunday evenings become all about Football. Bad enough I've upgraded to BT Sport in thr House too so I can watch NCAA ball too. Luckily I'll save a ton of money by getting beers for the house instead of going out.

Also started in a job this year which allows me to build flexi-leave and start at 10am if I want, so I'll work a lot of time off around the football schedule. Hoping for a surprising year from the Cardinals, but can only see us getting 6 wins at most if we're lucky.

Going to try steer clear of the Woolshed this season as they don't show Redzone. My favorite week of the year this is.

My work can have me awake at very odd hours, so it suits perfectly some nights..

I'm going to try and catch more games rather than watch Redzone, it's like football crack, so addictive and easy to watch, no commercials, feels like you're plugged into the NFL matrix, but I don't get the same enjoyment as I do from watching the full games, so going to try and cut down a bit on RZ this year! Might be easier, as I'm not doing any fantasy leagues.

Went 165 - 91 last season for .645 on the year, lets see if I can improve on that this time

    Bears
    Redskins @ Eagles
    Bills @ Jets
    Falcons @ Vikings
    Ravens @ Dolphins
    Chiefs @ Jags
    Titans @ Browns
    Rams @ Panthers
    Bengals @ Seahawks
    Colts @ Chargers
    49ers @ Buccaneers
    Giants @ Cowboys
    Lions @ Cardinals
    Steelers @ Patriots
    Texans @ Saints
    Broncos @ Raiders

Some tasty games there and a few potential early season upsets.
Really looking forward to Houston New Orleans as I think that'll be a barn burner!

Will do. I got into the game in 2007, the hype on Sky Sports around the Patriots perfect season got me into watching some of the games and then the unbelievable Super Bowl cemented me as an NFL fan. I'e been a Pats guy since then but there's always a few other teams every year I can't help rooting for. Would love to see Andy Reid get it done this year with that roster and hard not to feel for Brees and the Saints after last year.

Thanks for the welcome and roll on Thursday night!

Seems like a lot of heavy favourites this week.

I think the Bears D will take a step back under a new Co ordinator and Rogers to get back to being Rogers.

Falcons/Vikes is also a close game along with Texans/Saints. Some iffy moves for the Texans but for this season Tunsil will be a big boon. Still think Brees et al. Will have too much for them.

Jags were the only team to hold Mahomes to 0 TDs so they have a shot but unfortunately I can't see it. Hopefully we will at least see a better offense from Foles (though it will be maintained, remember Bortles ripped the Pats defense to shreds a year ago and that did not go well for the season).

Ended regular season last year at 163 - 93 at 64%. Definitely won more than I lost early in the playoffs but can't find the totals.

    Packers @ Bears
    Redskins @ Eagles
    Bills @ Jets
    Falcons @ Vikings
    Ravens @ Dolphins
    Chiefs @ Jags
    Titans @ Browns
    Rams @ Panthers
    Bengals @ Seahawks
    Colts @ Chargers
    49ers @ Buccaneers
    Giants @ Cowboys
    Lions @ Cardinals
    Steelers @ Patriots
    Texans @ Saints
    Broncos @ Raiders

Picking a number of underdogs here, so this could go badly quickly.

On the bigger underdogs, feel the Bills will surprise the Jets after adding offensive talent to help Allen alongside their strong defense, Panthers look to have improved a lot over the off-season while the Rams have at best stood still and their code may have been cracked during the tail end of last year, and though the Colts take a step back without Luck this year, Brisset has been QB1 all through camp and before there is recent tape of him for DC to disect he'll have enough to beat an already banged up Chargers team, that doesn't really have home field advantage.

Really wanted to go with the Packers tonight, as in the prediction thread I called for a Bears down year and Packers to win the division, however it is nearly always harder for a new offense to get up to speed at the start of the year and the Bears still strong defense, though not as dominent as last year, will lead them to a win tonight, especially when you add in home advantage.

    Roquan Smith. Jesus.

The hype coming out of Halas Hall is real. He's going to have a monster year.

Sensational start by the bears D, two stops by roquan Smith and a sack. Trubisky, let's see how you've progressed now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

A whole offseason practicing that play leads up to that mess

Shaky start for both offenses. Trubisky didn't look settled, but that's understandable.

Ah yeah, you'd have to expect that even in this quarter they'll find a bit of rhythm, let alone the next few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

C'mon Mitch. The D outside of turnovers couldn't do more for you on the Packers' first two drives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭rebelyell99

For how good the bears D is ,I just dont think the offense will keep there side of the deal outside Allen Robinson there isn't a whole lot in the receiving game .They will be very reliant on Cohen and Montgomery as we seen in that drive there.

Well done Pineiro. The reaction if that had gone wide would have been something.

Rodgers looks scared of this bears front ,trying to get the ball out any which way

Ah Mitch. Dunno how he does it but he gets away with so many of those awful throws.

    Patterson played DB brilliantly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,171 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Like the start of most regular seasons, both defenses looking much better than the offenses.

Trubisky nearly had ints on near back to back plays there after the near fumble turnover on the first play of the game.

Huge play there by the Packers, there'll always be a risk of those explosive plays

Better from Rodgers there, nice to see Jimmy Graham get the TD

Nagy being too cute. Feed Montgomery on 3rd and short. He's playing well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,471 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Nagy still trying this cute sh*te I see. You sign Mike Davis and draft David Montgomery but you hand the ball off to Patterson on 3rd & 1.

Ah lads it's been too long since the last real football. Tonight is a good night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,003 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

I know it's week one and the offense is going to be rusty but trubisky has been bad by any measure, bad throwing motion, lack of vision. But where's all the innovation and trickery from Nagy gone? It's all very pedestrian. Would be expecting some serious words at half time and some adjustments.

Packers offense is starting to kick into gear, defense won't win is this so time for trubisky to show up. I say this as someone who has a lot of faith in him, and not trying to read too much into one half of football. But we can only judge it on how we see it, and he needs to settle, big-time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭rebelyell99

Another poor drive for the bears ,trey burton is a loss hes a reliable enough target. If the bears offense cant get something going ,questions will be asked if Trubisky is the guy. They wont get too many defenses like this ,cant afford to waste them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,471 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I'm not even blaming Trubisky for what we've seen so far. Nagy has called an awful game. Pettine had had his number all night and Nagy hasn't made any adjustments. Same sh*t every drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,003 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

3rd and nothing, another cute play instead of handing it to a hard hitting running back. Stop trying to be the clever **** and get the ****ing first down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

This is just awful to watch. Terrible play calling again on 3rd and short. You just made 9 yards off 2 plays with Davis. Run it again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,471 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Seriously getting pissed off with this now. That's the second time it's 3rd and 1 and he does some dumb sh*t instead of smashing it up the middle of the field.

He did this so much last season too. Sometimes the obvious play is the best play.
