One of the later colours to be made and named funny enough. It shows up rarely or not at all in ancient texts before 2000 years ago. The Egyptians had a name for it, but the Greeks didn't(though their colour naming and perception was a bit different ours). In the East it was another shade of green. Even today there are groups of hunter gatherers that when shown a load of images of green with a blue in the middle can't pick it out.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Russian has two words for blue (light and dark) and they are treated, and perceived by native speakers, as two distinct colours

Read my mind OP, taken from another thread -

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not familiar with how Twitter actually works, but that’s a thread for another day.

I’ve gone on it a couple of times usually when it’s linked here or in another online article, and it just looks messy. It’s more like it’s own programming language than english, and the formatting is terrible.

The content is another story altogether but the layout of it is just like it’s designed to confuse people and cause a cognitive overload. Twitter and Reddit, and Facebook, three sites I just can’t get into the format of them at all. I’m not the least bit a technophobe but they just leave me thinking -

    Azul and Celeste.
Both of which take their origins from lapis lazuli. Asul or Azure comes from the Latin Azula/um(?) IIRC, though Celeste again IIRC was originally a light green and comes much later on to represent a blue.

I’m wondering now as to the source of this question, do people really look at their arse while they’re wiping to see if it’s clean?

That kid in the Andrex advert may have been onto something (as opposed to being on something) after all -

“As clean as a washed potato”

Had me do a wtf? anyway.

A combination of genetics, development in the womb and brain development. Nurturing is sociological factors such as culture. That’s a broader explanation of sexual orientation though as opposed to just homosexuality or heterosexuality.

I'd like to understand how Time Dilation works.

Its late, very, very loose explanation.

Faster you go in space, the more your biological clock/'you' slows down. But you dont feel the effects of it, everything is normal to you.

The difference is back on Earth. An hour may pass, but you will have only aged one minute. The faster you go, the greater the change.

I guess that , much like see-ing people they don't "know". More an educated guess depending on what you are.
Do you look at your bum after cleaning ?

It goes back to the old question.

Q - do you look at the paper after you wipe your arse?

A - (outraged) of course not!

Q - then how do you know when to stop wiping?

And before anyone suggests that it's disgusting to check the loo roll, the fact is that:
    (A) damn near everyone does, without even thinking about it and
    (B) if you don't, and you're just guessing/hoping that your hoop is clean before you pull your keks up, then it is you who is disgusting.

One of the ways I try to understand TD is this:

the face of the Earth is large clock
I blast away from it in a fast rocket
    the quicker the rocket goes
the slower the time would read to me
because the light takes longer to reach my eyes

Grand (a bit like the Doppler Effect) but I don't understand how that causes a real-world time difference as my wristwatch and a synchronised wristwatch on earth should read the same when I return.

But it wouldn't I thought. An atomic clock on the top of mount Everest goes slower than on at sea level ? So your wrist watch and earth clock should be slightly different?

Russian has two words for blue (light and dark) and they are treated, and perceived by native speakers, as two distinct colours

Irish has the same for green. Glas and uaine. Glas is the green of grass and plants, organic things. Uaine is for the sea and bronze, stones, etc, things that aren't alive. Apparently two different colours, but we only learn one in school, glas.
