Anybody else get a nice surprise in their AIB account this morning?

I got a not inconsequential payment into my account this morning. The code was T267 Correction.

Possible overcharge on old loan interest (none currently with AIB)?

Nothing here. I've been with them since 1992 and have had multiple loans.

I suspect we'll get in the post today.

Good to see so many get it (sorry, Mr E, maybe they need to send yours around by courier :) ) means it's less likely to be a random mistake.

Yes, I received over €200. I had a number of student loans but they were a long time ago. Very nice start to the day!

If it is for an overcharge then please change the thread title. There is nothing to thank them for if they are just being forced to hand you back the money the basically stole from you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

I've a student account with about 70c in it that I've not used in about 15 years (cheers for the free phone though!). Should I be breaking my back to get in touch with them??!?!?

Since it is AIB, the chances are extremely high that that is exactly what it is.

I am interested in what this could be, I had my current account and student loans with them but moved to another bank a few months ago. I doubt they will come looking for me to give me a few bob!

I'm the same. Banked with them for a long time but moved. If the regulator has told them to do this they might be obliged to contact us (glass half full thinking :))

What would be fun is imaging a scandal that goes in the customers favour rather than the banks. It's amazing that the bank is always on the right side of these errors

I'm in the same boat, had a few loans over the years too. Should we contact them?

    Got nothing!

I'm gonna go screaming at them on their Talk To forum now, demanding to know why - that'll teach the reps who have nothing to do with it, and they'll totally know who I am, based on a Boards username!

They haven't been offering PPI for loans for years now.

Just checked my loan account and €20 gone off that too with T267 correction, so definitely to do with loans

I was just answering to say that as I'd never had ppi didn't think that was it, it wasn't a criticism.

    €182.78 T267 Correction.
I've had a couple of loans (paid in full) over the years, but not a clue where that's from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,963 ✭✭✭D3V!L

Come to think of it this happened to me last year with them as well. I got over 700 off a loan due to some miscalculation.

My reading of that is that they charged interest on a loan(s) that would have been their right, but there T&C's didn't specifically mention it, so on a technicality they have to repay it.

So, not an overcharge. A charge that should have been charged if they had crossed their T's and dotted their I's.

    So, again. Thanks AIB. *

    * and yes, I do know it's a largely state owned bank, but I'll still take the €€€

The notice from AIB relates to those that got out a loan and then topped it up. Have you ever done this, even in the past?

You get a refund only if you topped up an existing AIB loan in the branch at some stage over the past 20 years ago or so.

On the day you went in and topped up, they didn't properly handle any interest which had built up on your old loan, insofar as they didn't document it in the new credit agreement so they're giving it back to you now in various forms. If you've closed all your accounts with AIB you'll probably get a cheque.

    I got 59.68
