Somehow managed to get claims on Monaghan and Cavan/Louth and took both. Think I'm finally starting to learn this though I did fail to imprison a schemer so I'll likely still lose the game.

Love Paradox games and Stellaris in particular. I find it very hard to enjoy other strategy games like Total War after getting the hang of Paradox games. Sure the learning curve is so steep but the reward is well worth the effort and the narratives each game naturally creates is more entertaining to me than the predictable and staged narratives of TW.

I especially like the setup for multiplayer, the real time aspect that you can speed up or pause is infinitely better than a turn based system for multiplayer.

I'm actually starting to have a little fun with CK2. I managed to create the Duchy of Ulster for myself last weekend. However, Norway has Antrim. Even have myself a vassal now as well after figuring out how to do that. Now, I've about a third of Ireland and am facing down another chap who has a sizeable amount of Ireland as well.

I'd to watch a fair few hours on Youtube before I was confident enough to risk the tutorial. The tutorial is completely worthless. Shocking how it can be so bad.

I've actually watched two of the MATN videos series and they are very good. Informative and entertaining.
It also reminded me that I played this a little more than I thought.

I'm looking forward to finding sometime to give this another good play through.

Actually, I see there are lots of situational mods for CK2 - Game of Thrones etc. - are there any UI mods out there? Civ5 had a few, cos its own interface is a little cluttered in places so there are mods to tidy it up, so wondering if CK2 has any...

LegendofTotalWar has a few shorter, single episode challenges which might be more useful than short campaigns. He doesn't explain all that much though:

I tried to play Hearts of Iron 4. No clue what to do. No indication from the game what to do.

Try Quill18's tutorial videos. They're recent so they cover the latest expansion, Man the Guns.

Here's a good CK2 guide I found. It does require some base knowledge of the game's mechanics though:

I just watched a random Hearts of Iron IV video where a fascist Ireland annexed the UK, via an invasion of Republican Spain during its Civil War. There are about 100 things wrong with that entire scenario yet watching it was just hilarious. :D

Generally Italy has been a good "tutorial" nation in the HoI series as they aren't "in charge" and are big enough that you can actually do something at least.

Basically there's two phases, building up your nation for war (production, research) and then the actual war part. Unfortunately in the latest patches they started making the focus trees and political decisions very complicated, so it is getting more difficult to figure out where to go. That's always the problem with Paradox games, they just add more buttons.

    ---

Big fan of the EU series myself, played them since EU2. Got over 1000 hours played in EU4, but now I think I'm finally done with the game. HoI4 (300+ hours) and Stellaris (150 hours) are alright, but never really got into CK2 (under 20 hours).

Em... So... I've taken a good bit of Ireland. I've created the duchies of Ulster and Connacht. However, since it took me ages to start the feckin' Brits have only swept up everything else. I don't know if it is worth restarting as their King outnumbers me significantly. Any advice on dealing with a larger power? I've gotten his opinion of me to a very high level at least.

I gave up on stellaris for many reasons

Yeah I quit after an unbearably tedious war. I suddenly realised I was just playing CK2 in space when I had fleets roaming around the enemy territory looking for any significant military force to crush just to get the war score high enough to enforce my demands. Like, I've occupied all of their colonies, including their homeworld, but the warscore is still sitting at 99%, and when it's all over I just give them most of their territory back and only keep a couple of border colonies I had claims on. It's just exhausting and no fun.

By the way, Crusader Kings 2 is now on sale in a Humble Bundle for less than a pound. You`re looking at a tenner with all the DLC. Disgusted given I only bought it in a recent Paradox Steam sale.

Starting up a new game. Nuno the Duke of Portucale in 1066.

I'm aiming to rebel against my liege, form the kingdom of Portugal, take over Galicia, Leon and Andulicia, then finally place members of my dynasty on each of those thrones.

This was one of the 'Game of the week' challenges.

I finally have all of the DLC thanks to humble.

Thanks for the heads up, just bought the bundle. Can you continue games you started before activating the new dlc?
