Yeah it's interesting this round - there's a lot of players being picked who are the position / style of player that I want but who weren't necessarily on my radar / shortlist.  There's been a few recently that I haven't been sorry to see go, not to say they were bad picks, just not players I wanted.

Does seem to be coming down a bit more to opinion at this stage.

it'll also be interesting to see how people view longevity versus talent.

how will people view Fabinho for instance?
I think its both but a good half season is just too short for me. Especially if we're judging on just EPL performances

I'm guessing it will be a random draw to decide the matchups when all the picks have been made? Will there be brackets or will it be a draw every round? I've never been involved in one of these before.

Can do either. We'll try to get someone who isn't in the draft to draw the teams so there isn't any issues with cheating or anything.

    Brackets would be nice.

I'd also be in favour of the pick one player from a team if you beat them. Would make all match-ups very interesting for all watching.

At this stage I was just thinking who's a better 10 than him.

Obviously you need quality in front and behind him because he isn't a guy who'll win a game on his own. But in the correct set up he's some player.

    Entire draft.

I was wondering if people could look past the perception of him being lazy.

Obviously your choice as the man running this, but my own opinion is that I wouldn't like this at all.

We've spent quite a lot of time drafting this XI to play together. By the time of the final the two teams in it will have 3 world class players to replace 3 of their more questionable picks. Someone who has a serious deficiency in their team might suddenly see it solved and that makes it less interesting and less about the original drafting we did which I'm not mad on.

I think these latter rounds of picks are interesting and having to pick players that are less obviously world class or who divide opinion makes it more interesting - this could be negated by the "stealing" from other teams.

Just my opinion, I would prefer the purity of trying to bring your original drafted team through to the end!

If team is set up to get best out of him he will be a quality pick imo

Open draw and no picking player from beaten teams would be my vote. Picking a player from a beating team just puts too much on the luck of the draw imo

Also the danger of brackets is it brings in a possibility of tactical voting or arguing against a team you are facing the next round ect. Open draw for every round gets my vote

That's the important thing with Ozil and the quality of players he is setting up.

We've seen what hes like when he has world class talent in front of him. Equally we've seen that he isn't the best when he has to do it on his own when paired with lesser quality attackers.

I'm happy enough I'll have a decent set up for him.

Ozil was my favourite player to watch for years. I don't think hes been at his best in the premier league for a prolonged period ever though.

I like the Ozil pick. He was truly sensational all season the year Leicester won the league. He really should have won Arsenal the league that season but a certain big handsome French striker could not score for multiple months in a row despite being provided with the chances.

i love the Ozil pick. i just thought he may be avoided because of the perceptions about him.

Sagna is a top quality snag too.

I had been looking at Sagna, I went with getting my midfield sorted before I looked there though.. he was a beast of a player with Arsenal

Yeah 2015/16 he had 19 assists and 6 goals scored in 35 PL games.

The record for most assists in a single season is 20, and like correction pointed out that was setting up player/players who wouldn't be classed as a prolific striker/strikers. Trying not to name names :pac:

Funny enough that 2015/16 season is more assists than he ever managed at Real where he was undoubtedly considered world class.

I agree with this. I would be up for one sub player as well if others were but either way I think an open draw and not taking a player from the other team is a good idea.

Seems like the pink slips idea is an unpopular one so we'll leave that out.

The sub one needs to be decided now as we're not that far away from that round. Should be there in a couple of days hopefully.

Would be fairest for those of us at the end of the draw to have a sub round to round off the evenness of the picks, but might not make a huge difference

I'm pro one sub. Gives a little flexibility. But tell me this, will the quality of the sub matter on game day or will it be purely 11 vs 11.

Sub is a grand idea as long it is utilised to give flexibility in starting 11 and not with the intention of changing when the match has started and you winning losing certain areas if that makes sense?

11 v 11. The sub would be to allow you to maybe pick between two tactical set ups but once you name your starting team that's it.

In that case I think its good idea

I think if we were gonna go with subs we should have decided that from the start. Peoples's picks could well have been different all the way through if they had known that having a certain player as a sub to tweak their system was an option.

Lets just go with 11 players and let the best team win.

Don't think it was specified that there would not be subs either. I assumed there would be as it's an uneven number of picks otherwise so people are disadvantaged somewhat. Subs isn't even a term I'd use since they can't come on and it's 11 v 11 in the match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,708 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    no subs IMO.

Yeah don't like the sub idea myself.

I'd have to add an extra column to the table and honestly, that's just not on.

    :D

Ah no, seriously I'll go along with whatever. I do prefer the idea of just 11 picks though tbh.

Could you just remove the double pick reverse for the final round? And just repeat the order from the penultimate round for the final round? Makes it fairer and then you don't need to add a sub which seems to be contentious?

11 v 11 for me, even though I have the perfect sub player that I know will probably get thru I just dont see the point on it.

If decided I wont mind though
