Which degree is the most useless?

Sociology pretends to be science, but is essentially an English degree focusing on non-fiction. At least with English you expect it to be useless, like Music. Philosophy however requires huge amounts of reading and dedication, but is still worthless to humanity.

I don't know, but having any type of degree isn't exactly worthless on a CV

Sounds like you couldn't hack college!

I studied Music, English and Sociology for an arts degree, dropped music after first year, and did a Master's in English. In the real world, all of this is useless.

    No he has a point.

There is something to be said on both sides of the argument.

However if the whole thread is just to troll me I kind of think that is just bullying. :o

Philosophy has proven its worth to humanity, difficulty arises when trying to monetize, same as Art and such others, however it could be argued that they are worth more to humanity.

I'm not trolling anybody, I don't know who you are, or how this could relate to you. I'm just genuinely curious what the most garbage degree is?

Why would any adult study music unless they intended to see it through and then take up employment in the music side of things.

Because everyone is incredibly wise at the age of 17.

Still all the same you would want to be fairly dumb to start a degree in music and then realise that music is not for you.

What's dumb about realising that you don't want to major in something? I'd say the dumb thing would be to continue on. I think what's happened here is that I've touched a nerve with you.

Sociology looks at society and this includes organisations. It's a good degree to do for future management consultants.

Do people in Irish universities "major" in things now?

Arts degrees are an incredible waste of time for anyone not looking to become a teacher or someone who’s retired.

It is with arts, you choose 3 subjects and drop one after first year, which becomes your minor and you major in the other two

The most useless degree would be one which involves studying which degree is the most useless.

There's lots of opportunities for people with degrees that many would consider low value One thing that springs to mind is IT conversion courses.

As I said earlier in the thread my son has an arts degree, no great value on its own but when added to his position as a guard it's worth 6k extra a year .

Art degrees get a bad rep but at least they spent a few years doing something they felt passionate about or were really interested in the subject, and probably had a fun time doing it.

I did 4 years of business, blew 10k on fees and never got anything out of it. 2 years later, I'm working a near minimum wage job that I would have got before I went to college :pac:

Just do something you like, you're gonna be miserable anyway when its all over and you enter the real world.

Anything will only be of use to you if you actually apply it to what you want to do.

    Stuff doesn't happen by itself.

    Did both Sociology and Philosophy:pac:

The research aspect of my Sociology/Social Policy got me my first position which led on to where I am now so not useless for me.

Knew philosophy was ‘pointless’ in directly getting a job but it’s a fascinating subject and I’d still spend a lot of time reading about it.

    Anthropology....now there’s a waste of time.

Yet you didn’t figure out how to use capital letters correctly?

They're titles so I think the person can use capitals.
