    Hi all

Bought the wrong nappies in Tesco. Didn’t take my receipt but paid by debit card.

How do I prove my purchase? Appreciate any advice. Thanks

    clubcard used?

listen if you drop into customer services and explain your transaction was 2 nights ago, etc they should be fine. but you can probably get a statement form bank printer with a tesco transaction to back this up if needed.

Just to note, you have no statutory rights here, you are entirely bound by Tesco's returns policy. If their policy says that change-of-mind returns must have an original receipt, they are well within their rights to refuse, no matter what other proof you have

As far as I am aware you do not need an original receipt but you would need to be able to show the transaction. So if you paid by card Tesco's systems should be sufficient to link the transaction to the purchase. But if you paid cash that wouldn't be possible.

That aside I would be very surprised if Tesco would not swap as a measure of good faith.

    Thanks everyone.

Yep, as I expected, they exchanged it no problem. I just wanted to make sure I was prepared.

I had presumed it was proof of purchase which is not the same as a receipt. Receipt is clearly easier of course all round. I tend to keep receipts and digitise them for a ‘big’ purchase but not usually for shopping.

Didn’t use club card this time which I usually do - good point though.

I rang KBC to get the POS number or transaction ID. They were, as always, utterly and totally useless. There obviously must be a unique transaction ID that links my bank with my electronic purchase with the shop.

    Thanks everyone.

PS. That person is probably correct - change of mind return is not the same as if the product is faulty, not fit for purpose or otherwise.

    Thanks again everyone.

    Doesn't apply here.
Even if you lose your receipt, your consumer rights still apply when returning something that is faulty
If the Tesco returns policy for change-of-minds stated that you must have a receipt, they don't have to accept anything else.

    Glad you got sorted OP

Technically speaking they could only allow change of mind returns from someone wearing a green hat on a tuesday if they so wished.

As it's a courtesy from the company and there's no legal requirement for them to accept change of mind returns at all, so they get to set the rules however they like.
