Corrupt because he is from a different culture or just more corrupt than what is already there???
This country badly needs change and hopefully this is the start of it.

Coronas got pushed back by an hour because of wind tonight.

Enjoyed it but was only half full there

Nice surprise that Hermitage Green showed up, if only people had known, it would be full!

Went on the Saturday night and the gig itself was brilliant but the weather was a joke. I know its hard to plan for the weather but there were only two small marquees for smokers and some even took to smoking in the main tent.

Also the queues for the drink were unbelievable! Maybe they should have had a bigger tent.

I saw Madness on Friday. Very good gig. I enjoyed it a lot.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭bigpink

With the tent up it’s a pity they didn’t run a free gig today with just local and young bands considering that I hear Dolan’s got a council loan to run it
All good reports of the gigs

Outrageous. You should write a letter of complaint to Mick Dolan immediately.

Well done to Dolans , they have been giving limerick people an alternative choice for 25 years when it comes to music , I hope they make it a regular thing .

Was at Jenny Greene Saturday night, and had a great time. Best night out I had in ages.
Got there about 7.30pm, no queue to get in, and only queued for less than 5mins at the bar tent for a drink. I saw later on in the night that the queues looked very long at the bar, so didn't bother queuing again, but luckily spotted that there were staff walking around the marquee with backpacks selling bottles of Rockshore larger and Jameson/coke and vodka/cans. €6 each, buy that's what you'd expect to pay at a festival.
Portaloos were spotless, security were sound and was great to see all the 'old school ravers' out in force, just having a good time dancing to old school tunes
Sound was great where we were (up at the front), and the orchestra were unreal.
Went to Dolans afterwards and the DJ set she played was banging... The vibe in there was deadly.... Felt like Creamfields or Global Gathering 15/20 years ago.
The only complaint I have is the weather, but nothing can be done about that.
Well done Dolans, praying this becomes a yearly thing!!

If there was any justice there would have been no Coronas, let alone a peak.

    Dreadful band.

Exactly. Watery bland sh!te, like most of the current Irish big bands. Kodaline, Picture This, Gavin James etc etc.

    Bit harsh.

Have to say, I genuinely would've had no interest in them, but they were pretty good (albeit some songs themselves were drab)

Madness were great , hadn't ever seen them before , but I think some of the other Irish Madness gigs were a better deal for the same price ! DayTripper in Waterford had Frank and Walters & a ska cover band supporting , Dublin got Lightning Seeds & Something Happens supporting , whereas Limerick just got a relatively unknown young Northern Irish band , Touts

These are the bands that are popular now in Ireland. Add in James Bay, Tom Walker etc where they make two words out of one when singing. It is watery bland ****e, but I just don't listen to it.

I'd love to see some proper alternative acts in Limerick, but the crowds won't come. Simple as. You can fill the place with people on the piss for Hermitage Green, Coronas, Gavin James etc. You won't get the likes of Mogwai playing Limerick.
From time to time, but only the odd time, some decent stuff passes through Dolans, but that's it. Not sure if it's the promoters fault or the general public for not bothering their holes going or looking for different live music.

Galway and Waterford and of course Cork get better alternative acts
Was asking someone in the music game said all gigs are offered around to venues and promoters

Does Limerick need another music venue or allow other promoters to use venues?

A similar but perhaps bigger event being is being planned in Waterford.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me but there was a time when Dolans actually had decent gigs on a regular basis.

Nowadays it seems it is the same bland boring ****e week in week out.

And an endless stream of cover bands too. Cover bands are fine in late bars, but I would expect more from a dedicated music venue such as Dolan's.

In fairness, Dolans had Ride the other night but I missed it. Would love to see more of these types of bands playing some festival or outdoor gigs in Limerick.

The xx, Rufus Du Sol, Nils Frahm, Halsey, Bicep, Four Tet, Any A$ap, Gorgon City, Chvrches, Sigur Ros, Sza, The Weeknd, Kiasmos, M83, Moderat and on and on and on...

These are all medium-large sized acts really. Its all down to cost though at the end of the day. Why pay someone like Chvrches 30,000 to come over when they can just pay madness 12,000. Its a safe bet as usual with dolans. The only time they have really current and popular acts seem to be on a weekday when they are cheaper or on a day when the act is already in the country to play a bigger more lucrative gig.

Quality line-up there! Would love to see The xx, in particular. Have to wonder though if those bands are "mainstream" enough, and would they attract a large enough crowd in Limerick? I suppose if they weren't playing another other gigs in Ireland, people would travel from other cities and come to Limerick to see them..

A lot of the bigger acts for Limerick would come via MCD and Aiken in regional tours which Dolans have the monopoly on
I’ve heard they got a150k council loan to run it which is a disgrace if true

If it's a loan that will be paid back, how is it a disgrace?

That's pretty standard for festivals and events. It's a loan to get the event up and running and then paid back once the organiser has gotten the cash in. It's win/win for everyone.
    You obviously haven't a clue.

Dolan’s a well known and successful music venue and pub couldn’t get a private loan? For A private money making venture
If it was a loan for a public or community festival fair enough

As long as they give loans to other private ventures then that’s fair

White Irish people who are EU Nationals who don't open kebab shops or phone shops and who don't employee non EU nationals.

There is absolutely nothing stopping anyone running their own events, it's a free world , get your business plan together, proposed acts and your marketing plan and get in contact with a venue .
