including 14 for dangerous driving including 3 hit and runs. He was also serving a 25 year driving ban at the time.

In the courts again for knocking down two people causing catastrophic injuries.

    Guess the sentence?

Because he hasn’t hit the 230 strikes and your out quota, I’m gonna guess a suspended sentence?

    215 previous convictions

And that only for the things he was caught for...

That happened near where I live, its very busy and I am surprised he didn't do more damage. Driving his kid to school.

    8 years

1 back dated and another 18 months suspended (from reading another article) so really only 5.5 years. Not accounting for remission on the sentence for good behaviour.

So, NO, not nearly considerable enough.
What do you think they should have gotten?

He should have his hands cut off after serving a 25 year sentence with no early release or suspension

Presumably the year backdated has already been served so 6.5 years.

Cutting off hands. Lol. I love how completely random some people think sentences should be.

He should have had 8 years before he even had the chance to ruin the young law students life.

Amazing, if he has done this with anything other then a car it would be attempted murder. Somehow there are different rules. No eight years for what he did and what he could have done at that crossing is not enough. Even if he had never done in a thing in his life never mind have 215 convictions. And I say this as a complete lefty pinko type oh sorry, its snowflake now isn't it.

How do you know he hadnt already served a considerable sentence?
He was on a 25-year driving ban at the time and had been released from prison a month earlier.

Article doesnt say how long he served, but if he already had a 25 year driving ban i'd wager he got a reasonable stretch along with it too.

Ruling out impossible sentences, what sentence should have been imposed?

Minimum 2 attempted murder sentences with no early release. Child should also be taken from his care by the courts as he grossly endangered his own child so tack on another few years for that too.

Not suspending the last 18 months and including time served. It was his 4th hit and run and was only out of jail 1 month before this happened.

You can’t convict someone for murder or attempted murder unless you can prove their intent was to kill the victim.

    Outrageous!

    What should he have gotten?

    15 to 20 years.

He also pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs; possession of cannabis; failing to remain at the scene; failing to offer assistance; failing to alert gardaas well as driving without insurance or a driving licence on the same occasion.

At a previous hearing, the court heard how Connolly “undertook” a line of traffic stopped at a railway barrier, before suddenly swerving onto the pavement where he first hit Michael Igoe (54) and continued driving to hit student Francis Dhala (19), causing him “catastrophic” injuries.

Witnesses described him going back onto the road, doing a U-turn and driving “calmly” from the scene with a smashed windscreen. He was followed by a driving instructor who kept in touch with gardantil they were able to intercept him.

What do you think he should have gotten?

A car to the body at the speed he was driving. Treatment delayed for the length of time it took the ambulance to arrive at the scene.

Then a life sentence. Florida justice life.

What charge would allow the judge impose a 15 year + sentence?

its always good to know that you need physic to prove anything in this country, oh well he has time maybe he will hit 250 or get early release to continue on his rep sheet

One question that bothers me thou would sentences be same all across board say if you have issue with Judges or their families, sure running few of them over and getting slap of suspended sentence, shouldn't be viewed any different, but smth tells me, if it was case with anyone with a bit of power any first such conviction would be slammed into oblivion to get person to serve life ? no ?

He sounds like a shytebag. No argument from me there. But I'm fascinated by how you figure out what the sentence should be. How did you decide on 15-20 years?

Well the maximum sentence for one of the crimes he pleaded guilty to was 10 years so I am sure you could tack on a few more for all the other ones, I'm not looking them all up and adding them up for you.

15 years would be more like it tbh. He caused life changing injuries to someone. Assault causing serious harm carries a maximum life sentance.

Why, so they can apply a formula and suspend and backdate the sentance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,244 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

What do you think he should have gotten?

Add up the minimum custodial sentence for all of his convictions that he hasn't been given one for.

    That long.

Hes clearly not going to stop his law breaking so at least that way he cant inflict his **** on members of the public.
