I suffer from severe lower back pain and have had numerous injections of one type or another and all to no avail. Similar results from oral medication. I have been advised that Dr Scholls insoles for severe lower back pain may be worth a go but I have been unable to source them except from USA. I have consulted with Foot Solutions but I am looking at the most of a weeks wages for insoles from them (even off the shelf not to mind custom made ones) and not prepared to spend this kind of money on the chance that these insoles might work. Dr. Schols in Dublin have been no help whatever. Any advise appreciated as to where these are available.

Dont bother with Foot Solutions. Overpriced and not well customised.

Go and see Mike Davis in Well Shod - he will assess you and tell you whether or not insoles will even be appropriate for your issue. If you do need them he will make them by hand and follow up/adjustments are free. He is not as expensive as Foot Solutions and he does a much better job - but there is a long wait for an appointment because he is so good.

Insoles do little do deal with lower back pain. Essentially its like permanently wearing a cast on your feet and hoping it will fix the issue. Often lower back pain unless an injury or due to long term illness is related to weakness of the area weather that be overall or in relation to end range strength (aka mobility).

Having worked with a lot of people to overcome lower back pain it is often due to one of the two reasons above.

A good study of over 2000 people that shows lower back pain aka LBP has "insufficient evidence to support the use of foot orthoses or insoles as either a treatment for LBP or in the prevention of LBP."
