Saw a stat a bit nuts.

Since 2000 2 Ferrari wins in the Monaco GP. Seb in 2017 and Michael in 2001.

Hard to look past either of the Mercs however. You'd think pole position would wrap it up for them, even though Ricciardo was the first to win from pole in the last 4 races.

Both Haas cars were black flagged early in the session, turned out the team had radio communication problems and as the drivers weren't reading the pit boards they asked the FIA to step in

    That is bizarre.

I know drivers rely more on the radio now but you would think they'd at least notice the pit board.

Some nice tributes on the cars from Haas up to Mercedes for Niki Lauda. Also the Mercedes team are all wearing black armbands.

I love monaco for qualifying but the race is a bit boring these days with the cars and fuel the way they are.
I have a feeling le clerc could go well.

If he was to win he'd become the second ever to win in Monaco from Monaco (talking about drivers born there not just living).

Only other was Chiron* back in 1931

*Not actually part of the Formula 1 championship at that stage

Worth a look if you have not seen any of FP1. The bit between 1 minute to 1 minute10 is worth it.

Honestly don't know anymore about Kubica, he has shown he still has what it takes to drive those cars, but not in competitive fashion against his only rival, his teammate, a tenth of a second behind in FP2 and clipping a barrier earlier on leads me to think the comeback which has turned sour so far will be a one season wonder.

Normally Merc's take it handy this year in practice and then blitz the competition after the talk up of Ferrari. Not this time it seems.

Also how did Leclerc find himself down there? Haven't checked it out yet. Weather, traffic or just off the pace? You'd expect him to do well here.

Seems Red Bull's assessment post Baku was on the money, the Merc is quicker in all types of corners and it looks like a straight battle between Hamilton and Bottas for PP and the win, Red Bull slot in between the gap back to Ferrari nicely and have the 2nd best package for this weekend.

    Bookies Odds To Win

    Hamilton Evens
    Bottas 13/8
    Verstappen 9/2
    Vettel 25/1
    Leclerc 25/1
    Gasly 40/1
    The field 1000/1

    *Best available prices.

Makes for grim reading, when was the last time the best placed Ferrari was 25/1 to win a GP? Max is the only way a Merc 1-2 can be thwarted and I think when Merc turn up the engines for Q3 he won't have enough to challenge, so unless the Mercs have a coming together this looks like it will sadly be a procession.

Max is the only chance to break the Mercs up.

Ferrari's car and strategists are just not up to it this year.

70% of the field at 1000/1, says it all really. I can’t begin to imagine how demoralising it must be to work for one of the teams not in the front three, they give their all just for a chance at 7th

You said it. Lack of serious competition is the big problem with the sport. The only way of solving this is to entice major manufacturers with major resources and who already have a tradition in motorsport to enter as full works teams. I am thinking of the likes of BMW, Porsche, Ford, Toyota, Lamborghini and Audi.

VAG own those bolded, but they could certainly enter under one of those Brands. BMW, Ford and Toyota have all dabbled in the past. I guess unless there is a sweeping engine change it is nigh on impossible to catch up with Merc and Ferrari as we have seen with Honda, who have picked up a bunch of negative PR while playing catch up. I guess its not that appealing a prospect.

Doesn#t look like it is an engine advantage anymore but an aero, as all Ferrari engines outpace the Mercedes on the straight.

Seems like those saying Ferrari have developed themselves into a Cul de Sac might well be correct, I am not sure this indicates that the Ferrari has much more HP than the Merc engine, just that the Merc is generating more downforce and much better round the corners perhaps at the loss of some straight line speed, not a bad trade off it seems given the way this season is panning out.

I think I'll skip this one lads, getting up at the crack of dawn to try and stay awake watching both Mercs run off is not my idea of a fun Sunday morning.

Qualifing will be good enough , someone always messes up FP3 and Qualifing ( looking at you MAX :D) . that throws thing out abit . So I will watch that.

Race not so much . Unless it rains but even that cannot do much there.

Some forecasts saying chances of thunder and rain, others saying dry and sunny. No idea!

Qualifying will be good but really were hoping on something crazy happening to make the race entertaining.

    Thanks for this

Did a bit of looking and I ended up Backing Lewis for 200 in Ladbrokes at evens and paddy power have Bottas at 2/1 so hedged the bet with a 100

He will do well to be on the front row later. He almost did the same on Thursday.

It was interesting to see Ferrari warming the brakes before the car went out but obviously didnt help much in this case

LeClerc was 20/1 to get fastest time P3. Guess who put a bet down on it :D:D

Edit: I actually got him for 23/1.

I'm not actually a "better", but I've started doing it for F1 races, purely to keep me interested! (Im spending €5 per race on a handful of bets)

    Edit: confirmed, just a reprimand

Vettel gave the barrier a good whack through the swimming pool. Sitting in the pits with 2 mins to go and on the bottom 5. He will get one flying lap here

What have Ferrari done, Leclerc is in the pits and P13. He could go out here
