Hello and welcome! It's been ages since a PW Tournament has been held so I reckon it's high time we get back on it. This competition is going to feature everyone's favorite Thanksgiving Big 4 PPV known as Survivor Series. Over the years it's delivered some shocking moments, debuts, wrestlecrap and screwjobs and we're gonna narrow it down from 32 to just one to see which event can truly be considered the Ultimate Survivor Series.
    d8eae-15421957978492-800.jpg

As always, the random number generator will be in effect pitting each year's event against another in single elimination fashion. It will take 3 votes for a given choice to progress and all votes should have reasons for being cast.

Round 1 shall begin shortly so come on in and get involved!

Our first bout sees two earlier editions square off. Let's see which event takes the initial edge in this battle for supremacy.
    Survivor Series 1992

    220px-Sur92poster.jpg

*Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship

*Mr Perfect and Randy Savage vs Razor Ramon and Ric Flair

*Big Bossman vs Nailz in a Nightstick on a Pole match

    VS

    Survivor Series 1988

    220px-SS_88.jpg

*The Powers of Pain, The Rockers, The British Bulldogs, The Hart Foundation and The Young Stallions vs Demolition, The Brain Busters, The Bolsheviks, The Fabulous Rougeaus and The Conquistadors

*André the Giant, Dino Bravo, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude and Harley Race vs Jake Roberts, Jim Duggan, Ken Patera, Scott Casey and Tito Santana

*Hercules, Hillbilly Jim, Koko B. Ware, Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage vs Akeem, Big Boss Man, Haku, The Red Rooster and Ted DiBiase

    92.

One of my all time favourite Heenan calls in the Shawn/Bret match.

    Paraphrased:

Heenan: I tell you this McMahon, Michaels is ahead on points. The ref should just award him the win now.

Flabbergasted Super Face Vince: Ahead on points! What the? He can't just.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Pretty crazy that Bret and Shawn had a World Title match that early on. The more infamous one obviously came a few years later. Shawn was also reigning IC champion here if I recall. They also tussled a year later in a Survivor Series Tag match in the 1993 edition too. Talk about intrinsically linked.

If I were going on wrestling ability, I'd give 92 the edge with the likes of Bret vs Shawn and then Savage, Flair and Perfect in a tag scramble but I feel the 1988 captures the spirit of the event better. I enjoyed seeing the masses of teams on the apron, that 20 man tag is quite a sight to behold, and that's not including the managers present either.

For that reason, I vote 88

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

92 for me simply for the level of talent in display and that early Bret v Shawn match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

    92 by far 88 was a clusterf

'98 easily. One of the best PPVs of that year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

98 was absolutely one of my favorite ppvs ever

2005 was great mainly for trips/ric and hbk performance in the interbrand match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I agree that the interbrand match was savage. The build up was great with the parking lot scrap.

2012 had the little matter of these guys debuting though...

    NeglectedVillainousDragonfly-size_restricted.gif

I think I'd go with 2005 but both had their merits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

2005 goes through via 24 hour count out rule. I'll soldier on and see if the next match brings up an interesting pairing :o

in an Elimination Chamber Match for the World Heavyweight Championship

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,041 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Was 2002 the first Elimination Chamber match?

If so, I'll go for that, as every Chamber match after got worse.

Shawn was only back recently and took some really stiff bumps on the grated floor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Was 2002 the first Elimination Chamber match?

It was. SS 2002 was also home to Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner's return in Madison Square Garden where he bet the snot out of Matt Hardy and Christopher Nowinski and then said ''Gimme a f*ckin' mic!'' to which you could hear Jerry Lawler going ''uh-oh!''. Other highlights were Heyman screwing Big Show out of the title and the Dudley Boys reuniting after the brand split to a massive ovation in New York. A great show.

    2002 gets my vote.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,959 ✭✭✭diusmr8a504cvk

For all the reasons above, 2002 gets my vote.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

2002 hammers 2000 without breaking a sweat. Could be a dark horse. It's an era clash up next

    89 for living the gimmick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

06 as i remember it no memory of 89 whatsoever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

It's gotta be 2006 for me. I loved that DX vs RKO match especially as comedy Shawn was at his best and it was a real coming out party for CM Punk. He got a massive reaction in the same ring as a hot Hardys team and a very over DX.

Also enjoyed the 3 way cross branded survivor series teams, very random but it worked.

I'm picking 06 mainly for the reason that i've actually seen it, whereas i havent seen the 89 one.

But man, i've a feeling, had i watched it, with that lineup, i'd be choosing that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Hulkamania era Survivor Series takes a back seat in this match. Our next bout is a tussle between two recent enough shows so they should be fresh in the memory.

09 for the last 2 matches really enjoyed seeing those and some great moments in them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Probably 2009 just because it had better Elimination tag matches

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,041 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

09 for me too, just a better overall card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

    * Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship

It's gotta be 97 for me. Screw Job aside, I liked the match. Good brawl and had great heat with the crowd. Also really liked the faction warfare type matches on the card. We had Kane's first showcase match and the Owen/Austin saga too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

100% 97. Loved everything the WWF did back then. Pretty good card too

1997 goes through with a time limit victory.

I go with 94 because of Chuck Norris.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I'll get with 94 because it featured a stellar angle with Owen Hart begging his mother Helen to throw the towel in for Bret Hart vs Bob Backlund. Was great. Also that Bad Guys team featured some of my favourite faces together namely Bulldog and 123 Kid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭NITRO95

1990 because it had Taker's debut and the Ultimate Survivors match which I still think is a great concept

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

2-1 to Survivor Series 1994. Any more punters care to cast a vote?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,041 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

    94.

Undertaker debut aside, 94 is just overall better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Chuck Norris has too much for everyone else. 1994 reigns supreme.
Our next match features two very recent events.

Two strong cards but I think 2017 has to take the win here. AJ vs Brock is somewhat of a dream match and New Day vs Shield is intriguing. The Champion vs Champion concept was done well too and the brand battle was built well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

A tough one but i'm thinking 17 as well. Just for the AJ / Brock match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

2-0 to the Champion vs Champion edition of Survivor Series. Next up we have two modern era events going head to head. Which do you think was better?

    Survivor Series 2016

    220px-SurviorSeries2016poster.jpg

    * Goldust & Stardust vs Damien Mizdow and The Miz vs The Usos vs Los Matadores for the WWE Tag Team Championship

    * Dean Ambrose vs Bray Wyatt

    * AJ Lee vs Nikki Bella for the WWE Divas Championship

    * Team Cena (John Cena, Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback and Erick Rowan
vs Team Authority (Seth Rollins, Kane, Rusev, Mark Henry, and Luke Harper)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

This one is a tough one for me. I enjoyed the Cena vs Authority match and build, especially given how the opposite wrestlers on each side complimented each other in their solo feuds i.e. Cena/Rollins, Big Show/Kane, Ziggler/Rusev, Ryback/Henry, Rowan/Harper. I think Sting maybe debuted this night too.

However 2016 had a stacked main event with SD at it's arguable peak. Roode and Nakamura still weren't ruined yet and Braun was still a boss. The Women and Tag scenes were fresh and exciting too.

    I vote 2016.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

going for 14 but a real tough one but loved the cena vs authority match and sting debut just seals it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

1995 for me. That Diesel vs Bret match was unlike anything I'd ever seen. Both were face going in but both had heel tendencies throughout, especially Diesel. It was a great brawl and, for my money, Kevin Nash's best bout. First table spot I remember too.

Liked the Wildcard gimmick of heels and faces on each other's teams and loved the suspense of Undertaker returning and showing us all that awesome Phantom of the Opera mask.

Watch the Diesel vs Bret match and let me know what you think of it. Subtlety, brutality and psychology is great in it.

I think you'll get a kick out of the Taker vs Royals match too. Very camp.
