After the Toy Show, it's the most watched show of the season - 677,000 viewers last year so clearly a lot of people watch and enjoy it .

    1940s country music:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF5Wv1j6YD0

We are not getting enough of this type of country music these days.

    Modern country music:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_C5wR9337M

We are getting way too much of this drivel passed off as country these days.

The 1940s song is excellent and so ahead of its time when that was a good thing: out and out blues, clearly influenced by Robert Johnson and Big Boy Crudup, pointing to rock n roll. The modern Irish country song is awful, not a sign of the influence from the proper country blues stylings. Sung by an ex boyband singer too.

I'd love to know the ratings breakdown for Dublin vs outside Dublin tonight.
Wonder if the ads will reflect the possible split with liver fluke injections / silage wrap brands etc..

    The Handmaid's Tale Season 3:

Offred/June escapes Gilead and arrives in Ireland. First thing she hears and sees is The Late Late Country Special. She concludes there is torture and there is TORTURE. She immediately books a flight back to Gilead!

Maybe former Norn Iron Secretary Peter Brooke will return for an encore of Oh My Darling Clementine? (video at the start of this)

(I was reminded of him because Peter Mayhew died who was Chewbacca and I confused him with Patrick Mayhew, who was also Northern Secretary for a bit and I thought he sang Clementine and, well it's been a long week)
