I agree with them. It's a disgrace to call white people fluffy. I'm ashamed enough of my bumfluff as it is.

Companies are now using it as cheap advertisement, the outrage business is big money.

Best course for people outraged by the outraged people calling it racist is to ignore it.

    You are not wrong there.
Couple of weeks ago one of those twitter warriors in The Netherlands took it upon herself to start protesting some shop for having Israeli wine on the shelves.

Thing went viral, wine got sold out and #tipvanmieke (recommanded by Mieke - mieke being the twitter warrior) was trending.

And this was in the shops:

Yep. You don't make a mistake of branding your food products "ugly" by accident.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

People will continue this outrate culture as long as companies keep bending to their will by pulling products off the shelves and apologizing.

They should simply ignore the outrage and it will die off and people wont even remember it in a week.

It's been there a while and it's certainly true for certain chains and brands. I remember a attempt at boycott of Ivanca Trump's clothes brand actually drove up sales

For some reason a fast food place who was found to have simply donated a small sum to the Republican party had some trying to organise a boycott and resulted in massive queues of customers

It happened in regards to ticket sales and viewing figures for NFL too, ESPN tried starting a social justice themes sports show that only pulled circa 30k viewed across the whole US and now have a "sport only" ethos cause they lost a lot of viewers when they decided to drag in all this crap when people just wanted to relax and watch matches

The attempt at Nike boycott over Kapernick by right leaning customers was a waste of time tho when you consider how global they are and the fact every Nike customer outside the US didn't know much about or couldn't give a fiddler's RE the anthem stuff

I would be interested to see Nike US only figures alright tho if it was possible

disgraceful, that theres no white duck. Im offended at been discriminated against

How many people actually complained about this? And were they actually outraged or just trolling? I reckon some of the people making claims of things being racist, sexist, homophobic etc. are just trying to cause trouble and are the same people moaning about feminists, liberals and the gay agenda online. I'm not saying there wasn't anyone who was genuinely offended, but there seems to be a lot of people trying to invent a threat when it consists of only a small fringe of morons online.

It makes you wonder how aware businesses are of all this and how much they can use people's outrage for cheap marketing. TV and print ads don't have the same reach as before, it's easier and cheaper and reaches another audience if you can make it some sort of political outrage and use ideology to your advantage.

If I walked into a car dealer and bought a white car instead of the black one parked next to it, would that make me a racist ?

It's creating the outrage that brings in the revenue. People who don't give a **** will buy the thing whereas the people who do give a **** - the SJW crowd - would probably never have bought it in the first place (for one thing, I doubt it's vegan :) ).

The business world also plays on the expressing "no such thing as bad publicity."

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Yep.
As someone above said offense is now being used for marketing, and like you alluded to, probably as some kind of counter tactic.

(exaggerate the reality and highlight the pc madness)

There are trolls and advertisers out there engaged in all sorts of madness, counter madness, counter counter madness, false flags, and quick advertising buck games, before it reaches the stupefied public.

its industrial scale, companies, sectors, political movements all competing to bend our minds and turn us into bots for their cause/pockets.

all you can do is adblock and choose content carefully, remain skeptical and know that whatever it is, theres now a good chance its propaganda of some sort.

This type of advertising reminds me of Father Ted & Father Dougal protesting outside the cinema about a raunchy film where the protest actually brought more people to watch the film and see what all the fuss was about. :)

The thinking behind the names seems odd. Ugly from the Ugly Duckling. Fluffy..uh, because, ducks are fluffy? Crispy ...because of crispy Peking Duck or something? Hahah it's so random. I would probably look crooked at it to be honest.

Maybe very short term. Because sales were right down and the clothing brand closed down

Some weird naming alright. Pretty random.
There might be some truth to the theory that this was planned as a marketing ploy.
It's very easy to trigger the anti PC people online these days. It's a surefire way to get publicity.

It's the people who think these things have the problem, if I'd seen this in the shop I'd never connect it with racism, ridiculous rubbish tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭Snotty

I like the way the idiot on twitter "overheard" someone else being offended by the duck, classic attempt to give some credence to her own stupid opinion by pretending she's not the only one.

There will always be idiots, always have been always will be, the problem here is the media that lap this stuff up. So called journalists actually spend all day scouring social media, they then contact the company for their response and suddenly they have a story for nothing.

I'm always amazed by the inability of advertisers to see how an ad might be misunderstood. There was a similar case last year with a H&M ad that featured a black child wearing a hoodie with the word monkey emblazoned on it: link
