Is this a wasps nest?

    Myself and Mr Lemon were in the garden shed and we noticed this.

    There was a large insect. Couldn’t tell if it was a bee, wasp or hornet.

    It flew away before we could get a picture of it or kill it.

    We took down the remnants of the nest and double bagged it.

    Is this small larvae the beginning of a wasp?

    Definitely a slug. And there are no hornets in Ireland. It's most likely wasps, bees make cells out of wax, not "paper".

    'Larva' is a small slug.
    The nest looks like the beginnings of a Wasps nest. I found a Queen Wasp this morning, still in a state of torpor so yours must have made an early start.

    Wasps do make nests out of paper. They chew up wood and make a papery pulp to build their nest.

    Do you think the queen wasp caught the slug to be eaten, or did it crawl up itself? :P

    A wasp returned to the shed today and Mr Lemon killed it. Would the same wasp come back to the shed?

    The slug found it's own way in. It could quite possibly have been the same wasp returning.
