I seen that article and posted a link in the negative thread. It's hard to know if it's positive/negative.

What's your take on the article. The launch is on the 18th I think. Could get really interesting.

Max Keiser seems adamant that it will ruin Xrp

My key takeaway phrase is “the white paper for Facebook’s project has yet to be released”.

With that in mind, everything the article says is pure speculation.

The whitepaper will be published on the 18th. Bookface coin won't be launched until 2020.

    Here's Andreas' opinion on it

Didnt realise it was just the Whitepaper being Launched. It will definitely cause a commotion though on the 18th.

It is indeed or even Vegas:)

It really depends on what the white paper says.

I have no doubt that if Facebook is launching something they have plans for mass adoption and they of course have a huge capacity to promote it.

But IMO saying at this stage that it will kill Ripple (or any other prediction) without even knowing what Facebook’s product is and what use cases they plan for it is very premature.

LTC really taking off now. Anyone here hodling?

Swapped mine for BTC a while back..

I could never really see the utility in LTC other than it being a testing platform for BTC to some extent. That said, if this is the deal with the LTC halving, what happens with the BTC halving? :D

Grayscale reckon that many investors are not even aware of the halving yet.

Can’t be anything but bullish for BTC halving alright, let’s see where LTC is in a 2 months but can see it going to 200+ by halving at this rate !

That’s also the first thing which came to mind when I saw the link about the card.

As far as I understand, technically each time you use the card you are selling an asset (cryptocurrency) for cash which is then used to settle the card payment ... and thus are liable for CGT on that asset sale.

This neither seems like a very tax efficient nor a very convenient way to use crypto (you’d legally have to calculate gains or losses for all these transactions and submit a tax return, which seems like a pain).

But CGT only applies to any profit made over €1,270 no?

    Great Video.

One thing that struck me is that a key factor in Bitcoin becoming so valuable is that there will only ever be 21 million coins in existence.

Why do Alt coins not have the the same supply of coins.

Some alt coins have a much greater supply of coins. Why would they do this as it severely limits the max value of their coin?

You're right to identify that scarcity is a key feature of bitcoin. As for the alts, well it depends on their purpose. If the purpose for example was for the IoT's rather than as digital money, then if IoT develops as it's expected, you'd probably need a shed tonne more.

But then it's also how you splice it and dice it. 1 BTC goes to 8 decimal points. If you said to yourself that the unit was a satoshi, then maybe there's a lot more to go around that originally thought.

    But the most important thing....

You can have a cap of 10 tokens or 10 billion tokens. Neither is further on unless it builds up utility and there is some form of demand dynamic developing behind it. For that reason, most altcoins will vapourise ultimately.

The people that promote Bitcoin never mention its limitations. The numerous Coin forks were supposed to have corrected these limitations yet Bitcoin still gets promoted in the media and no one mentions the forked coins in the media.

For example in the video the forked coins were never mentioned. Are they not the new and improved versions of Bitcoin

As you get further into this, you'll find that those that 'promote' various coins are less likely to talk of the disadvantages or as yet unsolved problems. Of course, it depends on who you tune in to - some can be a bit more reasonable in their approach than others. However, one of the greatest problems in this space is - as there's rampant speculation - there's money at stake. Therefore, misinformation is rife.

Whether 'forked' coins improved upon the technology is a matter of ongoing/perennial debate. You also have to consider if they solved one problem and created 10 others.
For example in the video the forked coins were never mentioned. Are they not the new and improved versions of Bitcoin
I never watched the video. I'm not sure who its from but I'm scared off by a sensationalist splash screen on the video claiming we're going to hit $10 million. Be careful of what you read/watch/listen to, etc. ref. crypto/blockchain.

I thought it would be a propaganda video re $10m but it's just an explainer worth sending to friends who may have an interest.

Not a criticism as such from me on posting it - particularly when I didn't even watch it. I watch/listen/read a shed load on crypto (as I'm sure many do here) - and try and cover the upbeat and downbeat stuff equally - and try and figure stuff out from all of it combined (which is still impossible given that at the back of it all, none of it can be trusted as there is bias in practically everything. The only difference may be the degree of the bias shown). Anyway, that's the crypto space!

Just watch the video and see for yourself, I literally stated in my post to not be put off by the $10m price prediction on the thumbnail yet there you are. Would you comment on an article without reading it? I hope not, because that would be pointless

Don't get yer knickers in a twist. I've been glued to this 5hit (crypto media) for quite a while. To lead with that is irresponsible - regardless what's behind it. There's not exactly a shortage of media to rummage through - so I *might* watch it later.

Respond when you actually have because I'm genuinely interested in any possible criticisms others may have. It's 40mins but it's so well made it flies by

Yes that’s right. But you’d still need to calculate your gains for the year based on all the transactions to see if it reaches that amount, and for someone who might have bought when prices were very low it could go up very quick.

For exemple if someone bought their BTC when the price was 1000 euros (1/7th of today’s price), it means that each time they spend 7 euros they are making 6 euros in capital gain.
So just using the card for €7000 per year gives 6000 euro in capital gain and reaches the threshold easily.

I just watched it. The guy has some videography skills. He's done a good job on what is an intro piece on Bitcoin. The only criticism I have is that he really spoilt it by sticking that sensationalist pricing claim on the front of it. Lots of people wont even look at it because of that. (I'm not saying it's right or wrong...to me, every and any price is possible from zero to (pick a number).

Hard to find any other details on the guy - new youtube account, looks like its someone who caught the virus pretty recently. If you wanted to introduce the topic to friends and family and spread the contagion, I guess it's nice easy watching. If you enjoyed watching that, then I'd recommend 'The Rise & Rise of Bitcoin' - it's the first proper documentary that I'm aware of on Bitcoin - came out in 2014 (if you need a link to watch it, message me and I'll send one on). It covers the earlier days of the Bitcoin story.
