Last hour has seen multiple rocket attacks from Gaza, in response to Israeli bombing of a Hamas HQ. Kicking off once again there.

This exchange is a bit heavier than recent ones. Yeah, sure it could taper off, but you never know.

Election coming up, which can usually lead to even heavier responses than would be the norm.

Hamas send rockets into Israel. Surprise surprise Israel retaliates at ten times the level.
How stupid can Hamas be? They know what is going to happen and they still do it.

Hamas fired first. Will they ever learn?

Convenient as always, and accortto initial news reports, sirens were sounded well before the rockets were launched for the Israel side.

But they get a lot of sympathy worldwide, that's their aim.

Anyway, I have to say that I don't give a flying feck about this conflict any more. I know as an Irish person I'm meant to really hate Israel and hang Palestinian flags out my windows, but I passed caring many years ago.

As long as Hamas keep saying that Israel must be wiped out, and keep trying to smuggle weapons in to Gaza, Israel has no reason to ease the pressure on the border or ports. Have a read of this, which summarises Israel's security concerns, which are mostly about keeping weapons out of Gaza.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Yeah, as soon as they ditch Hamas they can look forward to being cuddled to bits, like in Arab East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Golan.

It's certainly seems effective enough at dealing with whats fired at it, however how it would fare against non-home made surface to surface missiles fired en masse is another thing entirely.

    Instant dislike and disrespect.

Neither side are saints, by any stretch of the imagination. However there is one that is clearly and demonstrably the aggressor.

The official Israeli policy is that one Israeli is worth about ten Palestinians.

So I'd expect the destruction of a hospital or a small school at least.

Yes, it's just that simple. I'm sure if Hamas stop firing rockets, Israel will recognise the existence of Palestine, stop the ever-expanding occupation of their lands and retreat back to the original borders.

    Seems likely.

How long have Hamas and pals being attacking lsrael and what progress have they made?
None. Time to look at other options. Their Arab brothers are trading with Israel while using the Palestinians as ploy to keep their own people under control.

What other options? What can Palestine do that won't result in Israel stealing all of their land anyway?

Ireland are “supposed” to sympathise with Palestine, what with them being a small nation under the jackboot of a larger power, etc

Well if there was a war between the two wouldn't it be more favourable for the Palestinians to fight the Israeli military rather than firing blind rocket's randomly.
Which in turn can harm innocent civilians.

Isn't this where the definition of "innocent" gets fuzzy?

Israel bomb hospitals because they claim that they're being used to hide/protect insurgents, and thus nobody there is really "innocent".

Likewise an Israeli settler occupying Palestinian land cannot, under the same logic, be considered "innocent" and is fair game for attack.

Nobody is right in this conflict. It's a never ending cycle, but Israel being the state with the undeniable upper hand, more wealth, more education, more international support and having suffered very few losses in real terms, have the greater moral obligation to use the minimum amount of effort required to defend themselves while attempting to end the conflict.

They go the exact opposite way; they use ten times the force that is required and continue with their policies of invasion and displacement that only serves to fuel Hamas.

That saddest part is that what was supposed to be a "gift" to an ethnic group from the rest of planet after they experienced some of the most brutal racism and violence the world had ever seen, has become exactly the same type of racist, fanatical and ultra-violent state.

I know where you're coming from and it's unfortunate that Palestine haven't the modern capabilities to strike military target's if they're at war.

I know most of the variables and I wouldn't personally take side's, because I'm not as well up on the whole conflict.

I'd love to see peace there.

    I think we all would.

Why do you think Israel continues to retaliate even though it does nothing to stop Hamas?

I think it's time for Israel to look at other options.

Elections are never too far behind when the iron dome suddenly 'fails' and lets a rocket through. Gives them the perfect excuse to kill a hundred kids again. Bibi needs those votes.

It's all timed to perfection. It happens when he's in the US so he's forced to cut his visit short, thus creating more headlines.

It's too easy to sit here with Ireland's established borders and compare. Their land has been taken, and is being taken, bit by bit, and if ever there was a cause for violence, that is it. It's literally fight or lose everything.

The mere notion it has international support is disgusting. It's a silent killer spreading and ruining lives. Not one of us would stand for it in Ireland. Why do so many Irish people look at a people getting wiped out, and think "grand".

We have a history of being on the losing side.

This isn't a defence of the loss of lost lives via the Hamas rockets. But people live in these taken lands. It's an abhorrent abuse of military power on both sides.

I think Hamas are allowed if not enabled by Israel. I'm quite confident that if Israel have spies infiltrating other nations and using fake passports, they've a lad or two in Hamas. What better way to excuse genocide and ongoing theft than pointing to Hamas rockets?
Sure Israel has the Golan Heights and the U.S. has access to the oil. All wrapped up under 'security'.

It's a scum move to keep stealing the land, but it's not genocide and I wish people would stop calling it such, it's a massive disservice to actual genocides.

Israel should be moved to America where it belongs...let the yanks vacate one of their states to make way for it.

After all they think others should do that..so why don't they solve the problem and just do that themselves!
