    Hi guys,

We're going to sign for our house soon, all good so far.

Today I was told that I was being refused to be covered for life assurance due (I think/assume) to my BMI. It's high.

Is there anything I can do?

Try with some other providers, they may have different underwriting conditions. Alternatively if you can't find another provider you will need to reduce your BMI to a level they accept.

Could be anything really - I had a problem meeting criteria for ordinary car insurance recently - a few of yhe big players alm told me there weredifferent acceptance criteria with brokers (lowercriteria) - turns out they were right.Try a broker.

Go to an Irish broker who specialises in post-rejection applications, e.g. Lion or OneLifeInsure.

I had to get life assurance recently and found FM Downes very knowledgeable and helpful.

In the meantime if you wish to go ahead with the house/mortgage then ask your lender can do a 'waiver' of mortgage protection due to being refused. This will enable you to proceed and you can always continue to try and get cover afterwards.

See a broker ASAP. Even a term limited policy will help getting the mortgage. Ask the bank for a waiver on your life insurance. They may apply different terms and conditions particularly if you are married (we were capped at a much lower mortgage amount than we would have liked). My husband couldn’t get insurance beyond a five year policy

Hi @baileyborough, did you get sorted in the end? My partner and I are in the same position now and are looking for advice.
