    That's indeed his philosophy.

We can never be accused of not playing on the front foot/right way.

I think we'll be much more cagey/conservatively set up the next day to nullify the game running away from us early in the contest.

This team is ideal for counter attacking with their pace.

Disappointed Higgins and most especially Carr did not get a run out.

    Darren Coen blew hot today.

I thought Conor Loftus did a lot of good work today but how to plan for Fenton?

Put Durcan on him. You need to put your best player on him to try curb his influence.

I think if we're gonna have a similar attacking setup today, we need to leave an extra man back. Not a sweeper ala McLoughlin a few years ago, but just an extra body because if Dublin pump in long ball on the counter, it would be no harm to have the assurances that even if we lose the high ball, there's someone there to put in a tackle or force the point rather than be relying on a foul or save

McLoughlin was good as a sweeper. It wouldnt be a bad idea to use him there. But once you start doing stuff like that, you are abandoning what has got Mayo to the final. So its difficult to know which way to go.

That's why I'm saying not to go back to KMcL as a sweeper (although as you pointed out, he was handy in that role). I think maybe keep someone like Coen back instead of joining the attack or at least one of the halfback line. McLaughlin and Durcan would probably have a hard time not running into the grass if it was open in front of them so I reckon Stephen would be the most reliable at holding station

Well today it seemed like we went man on man with their two forwards, and I think having an extra player back would give us extra cover. I don't think we need everyone forward that we possibly can when it leaves us so open on the counter

Is Coen not already essentially the holding player?

He gets a nose bleed once he goes over the half way line.

Ideally Mullin needs to told to stay at home for the final. No more looking to join on the overlap.

He could be but looking at the chances Tipp got in the first quarter, I couldn't see him back there. I thought it was just 2 on 2 but I could be wrong

Well whatever about Lees punch on the ball going up in the air and behind him rather than forward which led to the Quinlivan chance, Sweeney just guided Barrett out of the way with his hip. Perhaps having a man back could have stopped the Quinlivsn chance but wouldn't have done anything to stop the Sweeney one.

How is McLaughlin that got injured? Everybody needed.

What annoyed me more was the Keegan just let him go with his hands on his hips why the fu1ck did he not bust a gut to get back you never no what could have happened there's no point just looking at him

    Question for the group:

How do Mayo beat Dublin on December 19th 2020?

Put some thought into it and we will come back for an analysis post final. Points to think about but feel free to give your thoughts in whatever format you like:
    • How should our backs arrange themselves to limit Dublin's attack?
    • How do we improve midfield?
    • How do we score 5-20 again?
    • How does management make the players believe they can win?

    Thoughtful responses are most welcome.

Ffs just show the bloody highlights
We all know none of those sensible suggestions will be implemented anyway

It's shocking. Have a separate program on it

    @cks.
Rte must be supported by Dublin Gaa at this stage .The Sunday game should be showing highlights first of the game that was played on Sunday then later in the show play games over the weekend . But this is not the case cause Dublin played yesterday .

This rubble should be on a Dublin radio station and not a so called national tv station. Shouldn't be waiting an hour to see today's semi final.

You would get a more informed and entertaining analysis in the pub.

Rightfully so. Wasn't impressed with that bit of defeatism from Keegan.

Keegan's struggled badly this year. I fear for him in the final. Experience is great but his legs are gone

Yes he was today and he does look like he has lost a yard and maybe carrying a little bit. He spent all his time in the half back line and now he is in the corner. There is no room for error in there. He has been class for us and I am really hoping he comes good.

Anyway, I would take the issues in the defence rather than in the forwards. It is easier to fix the defence in the two weeks.

If we do then this will be a good final .

    Legs are gone??
Nonsense . He's not as good as 2 years ago but still a solid player and well deserving of his starting place.

Best not to post random rubbish like this with two weeks lead up to the all Ireland final.

I'm trying to enjoy a 13 point semi-final victory but I'm too worried about other things tbh. I don't think we're anywhere near the levels we have been going into recent finals.

Kickouts are exaggerated by a weaker midfield.
Keegan too loose for FB line and struggling.
Mullins still has question marks for me defensively, he will be very good but is he at present vs Dublin.
McLaughlin is some athlete but runs into trouble / distribution isn't great.
Midfield is weaker in general, a young pairing that will take time. A pairing I like, in what both bring can bring to the table, but this final comes a couple of years too soon imo.
O'Donoghue a bit hot and cold I feel.

Our biggest hope lies in the FF line I feel. If all three are firing and supported by some great performances by Kev Mc, DO'C and Durcan then maybe we've a chance. But if Tipp can score 3-13, and should have been more... then I can't see how we're stopping Dublin.

A change of tact is needed for the Final. We're not as strong as we were and going toe to toe could be carnage. I don't think Horan will be changing too much though.

Would love to be more optimistic and I generally am but heading to bed with more questions than answers after a 13 point win, it's nuts.

    Have you watched the championship.
He was caught on the turn for quinlan chance. He couldn't catch sweeney for the cross to quinlivan. He was caught for the black card.
He was caught in the game against Tyrone.

    Not rubbish.
    Welcome to the forum.

Ok I was much the same. BUT we are in a final. It's a one off game that anything y can happen.
In 2006 we weren't as well to turn up. Against cork we are as well not to turn up. We were gone this year.
We need a stroke of luck.we can't have two own goal's. We can't have silly black cards. We need to score almost every chance.

If your no in you can't win. So fk it. Why not. I do t expect us to win. But neither did cork, cavan or tipp. Do we just not bother?

I wouldn't say that Keegan's legs are totally gone, but I think his hip injury took a bit out of him and now Horan is trying to mould him into a player that he isn't. Corner back is a stickier position than what he's used to playing. It's a position that requires way more discipline and patience than half back. Keegan is used to bombing up the pitch at will, leaving his man behind, and being allowed a bit of freedom to be creative. He wants to be let off the leash and maybe is feeling a bit shackled in that corner, would be my impression of it.

Either way, putting him on Con the next day has the potential to be a disaster, imo. Would prefer to see him on Kilkenny. He's done that job before and handled it well.
