    Hi all,

Suffering with Piriformis Syndrome. I’ve tried physio, physical therapy and an osteopath with no joy.

Has anybody had any success in treating such an issue?

Feel free to PM me with recommendations of people who you think will help me.

    Based in Dublin.

    Thanks.

I tried lots of different stretches but this is the only one that works for me. Do it at least once a day for a few mins. Lean to side first before pushing back for the best stretch. Also do regular hamstring stretches too. https://youtu.be/fKD6LldkTaY

Stretching helped a lot, driving aggravates it for me so have to be conscious of my seat position and had to adjust my sleeping position (that was difficult). Still get it from time to time.

I had Piriformis Syndrome for 3-4 years. Eventually sorted it with stretching and some yoga moves (Sun Salutation being the main one). The key was being consistent with the stretching (15-30 mins daily) over a 12 month period. It comes back slightly every now and again, particularly after a long drive, but I just stretch out again for a couple of days and it sorts it.

It's not pleasant when you're suffering though. Best of luck with it.

Thanks all for your input, it’s much appreciated.

If anybody else knows any therapists in the Dublin region who could also help me, feel free to let me know.

    Thanks.

Been suffering on and off with piriformis issues for years, originally misdiagnosed as back/ disc issues.
I found stretching and rolling would only keep it at bay for a while but it could flare up after travelling or sitting all day.
Got a glute strengthening program from a physio combined with physio led Pilates and went away after a few weeks. Now I do glute work and stretch couple of times a week and haven’t had a bad flare up in 2 years.

I agree with Slow n Steady. No matter how long I spent stretching and rolling, the pain was always there. Once I started to strengthen the glutes the pain went away.

+1 on glute strengthening. My whole posterior chain was weak.

I had it on and off for a long time (cant remember how long), my SI joint was really the issue but the reason THAT was problematic was because of old knee surgeries and basically walking badly - one glute was doing more work so I was very imbalanced.

So for me - trying to reduce the imbalance. Loads of posterior chain and glute/hip work combined with core work. And loads of stretching and foam rolling.
