Check with your insurance company first. I was asked if it had any modifications. It made me wonder if this is considered a modification.

First, no Alcantara. Now no acceleration boost. I'm starting to feel like I've got the Paddy spec 😄

What you're starting to sound like is the EV equivalent of a Fred.

Enjoy the car - it's plenty quick without acceleration boost.

You ordered a burger yet want a steak. Enjoy the car it is impressive as it is.

I wouldn't think so, as it is a readily available software update from the manufacturer and not a hardware change. Otherwise every time an OTA update was available, you'd have to check with the insurance company. You don't have to inform insurer if upgrading to enhanced, or FSD capability, so this would be the same.

    Untitled Image

I think this is the Launch edition badge, which is the AWD but with the upgrades included, like acceleration boost etc.

    Dual Motor is the AWD.
Plaid badge is the Launch Edition which had the 20” and boost added.

Don't get me wrong, I love a tasty burger. I'd pick it over an overpriced steak anyday!

The Alcantara Dash is exclusive to the Launch edition, the AWD only has Alcantara door trims. In the US, for $200, Tesla offer the Alcantara dash as add-on in the Tesla accessories shop.

So those with the model Y Juniper, we've got this new speed limit chime that beeps when you exceed the speed limit. I'm ok with that, I tend to stick to speed limits and its actually kind of handy to be warned when I am inadvertently over the limit.

But there is a big problem with it. It does not recognise the 60kph national/local roads speed limit. As an example, a road on my daily commute has no speed signs heading into the town. Limit is the default 60kph. But the car thinks it is 50kph, this is because the first speed sign it comes across on the road is a 50kph at the point where the road comes into the town. It seems to have stored the speed limit for the whole road as 50kph. Now, going the other direction (out of the town) it has a 60kph sign so it picks it up ok.

So there are two different speed limits on the same road depending which direction you are going.

This is just one example and it's not unique to this road.

Is there anyway to edit the map? I know I can edit and add roads on google maps, but is there any way to edit the speed limit?

The chime warning is an EU safety regulation. It can be disabled by pressing the icon which lasts for the particular journey but can’t be permanently turned off.
The navigation system relies primarily on detecting road signage which it does quite well so it is taking the 50km sign that it sees. Hopefully local authority will addesss. There is no edit facility to manually edit the maps

You can turn the chime off by muting the audio track from the navigation system. The speed limit sign will still flash when it detects you're over the posted limit it can see, but it's not distracting.

Audible directions from a nav system are fairly redundant in this day and age anyway - the MY screen is so big & good and the nav system so smart you don't really need any sweet-sounding London city secretary guiding you IMO.

Yes I understand all that, it's just that it's detecting the incorrect limits. The root of the issue is that it is unaware of the national limit that applies when there is no signage. It's probably just an Irish thing to be honest, which will mean no hope of a tweak to address it.

Getting the council to add signs is not an option. The law is no sign = national 60kpm limit.

What does it matter to a driver though? It's not like the driver is relying on the Tesla nav system to advise on the current speed limit?

What would matter to a driver is a constant annoying chime, and we've told you how to get rid of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 83 ✭✭reaction238

Well I used it in my last car to determine the speed limit if I don't see a sign and it's not obvious. I suppose I need to change that habit. It's annoying that the chime is wrong and I have to disable it for every journey. But the main reason is that it is just so very wrong that it clearly is not working properly and needs to be fixed to be fit for purpose.

I'm just back from a trip around the local area, it's wrong 95% of the time. It even reported a 30kph as 80kph, because I just turned off an 80kph road (which was also wrong, it should be 60kph) into a road with no signs, so it says must still be 80. It's so very wrong to be completely inaccurate. I wouldn't dare use autopilot on anything other than a major road, but even then my confidence in the system is not very high.

It is also used by the navigation system to determine arrival dates and estimated battery usage.

To answer my own question, you tap the speed sign on the screen and it has a report feature where you can report the correct speed limit. I will see if anything comes of it.

I have a similar issue when driving the R139. The speed limit is 60kph. Often the bushes are overgrown and the car will sometimes read 50kph or 40kph.

Has anyone been able to receive items from EVBase to Ireland? Trying to order wheel covers for new Model Y Juniper which I received yesterday, but get the following message when I enter Ireland as destination:

"Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Review your address to ensure it's correct and try again, or select a different address."

I have tried entering different countries, and they work fine. EVBase say they ship to Ireland on their website. They have good discounts on wheel covers at the moment.

    Thanks!

What do people think about the timing for taking my Y off hold? I do want to wait for the 252 plate. But I also don't want to waste any time getting in line as there is probably a good few waiting on orders of 252 plates.

I could wait until 12:01 on July 1st just to be sure. Or would it be worth taking it off hold on Saturday evening once they close? Surely they won't have a 251 plate slapped on it before Tuesday. Especially since I won't even have the deposit paid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,450 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

I'd say wait, just in case. Once it's off hold, they will be pushing to clear the decks asap. Terrible shame they don't offer incentives for taking the car before 252. A free accelleration boost, or free SUC for life would twist my arm 😁.

Christ, even the rubbish upgrade to enhanced AP would do it for me!

Nice. I prefer a bit more coverage myself. I went with the stock style 20" look, but in matte black. I'm now sifting Ali for more goodies.

Yeah, I feel like I could have been sweet-talked into it to take one 🤣. They were handing out free home chargers at that show. If I got that, I might have taken it.
