4 from 4 for the Provinces this weekend, class.

Yer man, Tim Cocker is fair annoying tho…

I post positive praise of Munster's young players who played brilliantly.

And you take issue with me simply expressing that I'd like to see them given further opportunities.

And somehow I'm the negative one.

FFS.. The lads 19 years old. 19. Let that sink in.

He's a horse of a man for only 19. Future is bright in the back row with the likes of Coombes, Kendellen, Hodnett and him.

Beirne was immense. I think he may well be the best lock in the 6 Nations. POM, Hodnett, Buckley and Murray the pick of the rest.

But you didn’t say you hope they get more opportunities. You said you hope they’re not discarded. Framing it as a negative. Subtle, but telling difference, imo.

How many other 19 year old’s started this weekend, for example, outside the SA affected teams? When is the last time a Province started a 19 year old? Today was absolutely brilliant but there’s a reason for that.

Brilliant result for Munster. Red obviously dictated a lot of the outcome but you can’t take away from the performances of the young lads.

Okeke looks like some athlete. Not the finished article but he’s 19 years old, so you couldn’t expect more at this stage. Seemed to have a good eye for space and the pace and power to exploit it.

Btw could someone explain to me how exactly the red card was incorrect? Surely a player with a poor technique going shoulder into neck/head area or a player standing close to straight is a clear as daylight red card no?

Also I presume the quarantined players are available next week? It was reported in Cardiff that their players arent available which makes me wonder are ours available?

Munster and Connacht double 6/1 earlier too. Think some bookies were caught on the hop before change in Wasps team. Some result

they may have had some positive PCR tests from the lads in quarantine?

Munster should have most of our squad available next week but Carbery probably won't be available, and a lot of the lads will have had really poor preparation what with being unavailable for training and not having played any matches for 2 months

All of the internationals will start if fit, and i think some of the youngsters will be in the mix for starting spots next week, or at the minimum to come from the bench

Buckey and Okake were both outstanding, as was Hodnet, especially given that he's just back from injury

    POM was incredible today

Unbelievably good. but even POM needs to have some selection pressure from these young lads coming up

They SA 14 are back in Ireland, but have started another 10 days isolation. The players from the 34 who left isolation yesterday will be available for next week. I don't know if they'll be ready for play 80 after two weeks in a hotel room though. I could see a pretty similar XV to today with a stacked bench next week.

That would be fine, the only worry I had today was the bench but next week that shouldnt be an issue. Atleast Crowley and Healy should get good minutes next week provided they arent one of the players who tested positive.

Castres losing at home to Quins means they're as good as out already, so Munster can expect another BP win next week even if the squad is still a bit depleted.

A home QF is on the horizon.

Not exactly. It means munster away is a must win for them. Castres won't go down easily in limerick especially if Munster are still depleted (and we will be)

Honestly I'd be very surprised. Castres are a good team who don't give a rats about Europe and care even less about away wins in Europe.

I think the BP will be secure by half time.

Ya, Castres put out a second team today, with no decent reason (I know of), so would agree that Europe doesn't matter to them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,119 ✭✭✭UAEguy2020

Castres can "not go down easy" all they like, they are still going to get smashed.

Well Scott Buckley is 21, not 19. And he put in the best performance I've seen from a Munster hooker in a long time.

How is it negative to want to see him given more chances going forward ahead of the likes of that Australian lad? He's clearly got loads of potential and can play at that level.

Okeke is 20 in a couple of weeks. There's no reason why he can't be given more games in the URC this season.

When is the last time a Province started a 19 year old?

Nathan Doak, Scott Penny, Jamie Osborne, Ethan McIlroy

I don't know why you're trying to portray what I'm saying as negative.

Diarmuid Barron put in an excellent performance against Ospreys just a few weeks ago, but I’d largely agree with you with regards Buckley. But not necessarily Campbell and Okeke.

That’s 4 players over, what, the last 3 seasons? Add in factors like the reduced season so fewer available minutes than when Penny and McIlroy made their debuts and, for example, Doak already being on a senior deal. Okeke and Campbell are year 1 academy.

The point being, different players will be at different stages of their development. Yesterday was brilliant, but even if they don’t get any further game time for the rest of the season, it doesn’t mean they’ve been “discarded”.
