    Should probably add the size?

It looks too big for me but I had one of these in the past - really fantastic bike and regret ever having gotten rid of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 681 ✭✭✭wheelo01

I have done, I was watching TV with my wife and all that was going through my mind was add the size, but couldn't be so rude as to go online.

    Thanks

Looks like a 58cm frame. The head tube is quite long for a 56cm but maybe I’m wrong.

I'll measure it correctly, it is from the centre of the BB to the top of the top tube, yes? No?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 681 ✭✭✭wheelo01

From centre of BB, it is 56cm to top of top tube(crossbar), but 60 CM to top of seat post clamp.

I'm open to offers, and if I am vastly overpricing, could someone tell me please.

No. The size is horizontal from the centre of the seat tube to the centre of the Head tube, that is the top tube (crossbar). The size is usually marked on the bike. As far as I know Canyon use M, L, XL, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,300 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

This looks like it could be an XL to me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

Looks like a 60cm frame. Canyon were using cm sizing when I bought my AL in 2011.

If there is no joy on boards then list it on Adverts. Your price is fair, but I would take some better photos of the bike. You could remove the saddlebag and pump, maybe even the bottle cages as they don't match - its about making the bike as appealing to as many people as possible. Perhaps raising the saddle height a little bit might make the bike look a little 'racier'.

Great frames those Aluminium Canyon's. Best of luck with it.

Would you take €500 subject to it being a 60cm

I may have actually been right? Dont tell my wife :D

@cyclocross! I think that's a little low, I've no real problem doing some deal, but I'll hold off for now, thanks.

I'll get out to the shed tomorrow and see if the size is printed on it somewhere, otherwise I'll take a load of measurements.

I know you got a new bike recently, why are you not keeping this bike as your winter hack ?
Mad using the good bike in the winter, just saying ......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 681 ✭✭✭wheelo01

I dont really subscribe to the winter bike theory, that and a lack of space, and a wife, who, funnily enough I'd like to keep.

You need to look up the rules of cycling and specifically rule 11 &12 :)

No problem at all. Happy to wait. Part swap on a sturdy cyclocross bike?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 681 ✭✭✭wheelo01

This is a list of measurements

    473034.jpg

As I said before, from centre of BB to top of top tube is 56CM, and the top clamp for seat post is 4 CM above that again, total height of 60CM.

@secman, I'm a disgrace to cycling, I know about n+1 it just wouldn't be good for my marriage.

@cyclocross, I really have no need for a new sport to partake in, for the same reason as above:D if it helps, I'd split the difference between us to €600?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭cyclocross!

Thanks. Looks a bit small. Leave it with me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,503 ✭✭✭secman

    It's a 56 so ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,423 ✭✭✭Gadgetman496

Would this be suitable for someone 5 foot 8?

No, I wouldn't think so, I'm six even and its just about right.

    4 and a half years.

And finally, where are you based?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

If the top tube is 58, it's a 58 no?

I'm a 56 and a 58 would be too big for me, so whoever buys it would wanna be sure. Does it not say on the frame somewhere what the size is? I have to say it certainly looks like a 58 from the pics to me. As in it looks too big for me. -I'd love it meself, great frame, but useless if it doesn't fit.

Bike size is measured from centre of crank to seat tube, that's 56 on OP 's sketch so it's a 56

Live in Drimnagh, Dublin, work in Phibsboro, parents live in Santry, regularly in the City Centre, so any of those areas are good for me.

No size marking/stickers on the frame, that's how come I measured everything and sketched it out, this discussion has been had already over which tube gives you the size.
Anyone is welcome to spin it on the rollers here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,503 ✭✭✭secman

Think this bike would be a good buy , happen to follow OP on Strava and id say there's less than 10k km on the bike, and that would be relatively fair weather spins, I've also bought from him, sound lad.

Edit, just see OP is saying less than 2k km on it, lol I was being kind to him saying less than 10k km :), definitely fair weather one though.

Grand yeah, but it's not clear how the hand drawing tallies with Canyon's own geometry details for the ultimate Al. Unless the OP is measuring top tube as far as the handlebars (i.e. including the stem)??

Where are you based OP if a fella wanted to try the bike for size?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,531 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Its a 58cm, going by the sketch and the official measurements

    Hi,
Is is a 53/39 or compact chainset?

    Hi,
Is is a 53/39 or compact chainset?

How would I tell the difference?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 418 ✭✭lethal dose

It should have 53/39 or 50/34 stamped on the chainset facing outward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 681 ✭✭✭wheelo01

    474938.jpg

    It says 50/34 on it

If anyone wants to try it for size, just tell me where you are, I cover most of the city at various times, plus would travel somewhat.
I also have a set of rollers here if that suited anyone to try it out. They also fit in the car, so we could set up by the side of the road somewhere..:D :D:D

Can anyone suggest the best way of selling this? Am I being unreasonable with my expectations?
If someone is just starting out and needs a good bike, I'll do them a good deal..... any takers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,300 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

Drop the price and be clearer on exactly what height it is for / what size the bike is and it should sell easily. It still looks too big to be a 56 for me

I've had one of these before and they are great bikes but this looks 5 years old or so, and you are competing with bike to work or someone who prefers to buy something new for 900 than second hand

Unfortunately, I think the campag groupset is a hard sell
If it had a 105 groupset for example, would have been sold ages ago, in my view

I still don't know what size it is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭headbanger.

It seems that Canyon measures seat tube from BB to the top, it will be an XL then as according to OP's measurements seat tube length to the top is 60 cm and top tube is 58 cm.

    http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm286/RatherNotSay/Canyon%20Ulitimate%20AL%20SLX%209.jpg

More reliable way to find size in this chart would be to measure head tube - if it's 19 cm then it's XL size.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,531 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

    It's a 58cm

The truth is that it is a 5yo bike that was 1600new AFAIK, A year or two later, you would get 800euro, maybe a touch more. The chainrings are worn, I know you said you have only 2000km on it but they are worn and need replacement, this means the chain would need replacement as well. Can't see the cassette but as a buyer, Id be thinking that has to go as well. Thats coming up to at least 150euro, plus labour. Askium wheels are disposable but I wouldn't have much faith after five years, they could last another five or go tomorrow, so that is another 250euro risk (tyres included).

Realistically, and it is a nice looking bike, Id take it for a winter trainer myself if I had spare cash but realistically, hope for 500euro, but be happy with 400 or over. You might have better hope on adverts than here where your not advertising to people who are likely to spot these issues. If you go over there, keep asking for what your asking here, you might get lucky, I just can't see you getting what you want here. 58cm are hard to come by but equally harder to sell, not a well loved frame size much to my annoyance.

I think they have changed geometry more recently though. This looks like it is from the 2012 or 2013 range (not saying it is that old - I bought a 2015 model Canyon in early 2018). It could be a Large in that sizing. In any case it looks like it would suit someone of 1m82 or so up - at a guess

    €500 or nearest reasonable offer.

Too big for me or I'd take that from you. Lovely bikes the Ultimates, and the Alu versions are no slouches. Would be a shame to relegate this to turbo or hack use.

I'm sure you'd get your 500 if you traded in with CSS perhaps?

    GLWS.
