17 is very low. I know it's a pilot scheme but I expected at least 20.

At least they made a panel. If they choose to continue the scheme I imagine they'll go back to that.

    Reply from Public Jobs:

"Thank you for your email. The ICT Apprentice is due to begin at the end of April. We have assigned 17 candidates on both streams – Infrastructure and Software.

We do not plan on assigning more as there is a limited number of placements. However should any of the assigned candidates withdraw their application, we will then look to the panel for a replacement."

Yet they are on about hundreds of participants on the FIT website brochure. (Can't link it because I'm new)

This is the first run of this for Public Sector, FIT has been running similar private sector programs for the last 3 or 4 years. Usually around 20 per stream per iteration.

17 Damn that's low probably wouldnt have bothered applying if it i'll just go back to applying with my bachelor in Networking in the private sector. I don't get why they said after the interview I was in the qualifying standard when clearly anything under the top 17 isnt.

I hope after the first one starts they start a few more groups, 34 spots seems small for the number they put on the panel

I was placed in the 40’s on the OOM after the interview stage. It must have been a strong field of candidates, I thought I preformed well at the interview. Remember folks this is a pilot scheme and the CS will monitor the current crop of 34 candidates to see if it is a success or not, that is why they are saying “ no plans to call further candidates” they are playing it safe. If they decide to continue with the program, I see them dipping into the panel a few times more, so if you’re 68 or under on your stream, I think there is hope. Normally panels remain open for a year, I know the last competition for EO I did, they stated a year. It would be such a waste on their behalf and a disservice to the candidates who made the grade on the OOM not to call further people from the current panel if they decide to proceed with the program. Best of luck to everyone on the OOM, I hope a large portion of ye get called
