Go back to the shop and quote Sale of Goods Act - product has to be fit for purpose. Two years doesn’t qualify. If you don’t have the receipt, perhaps its a debit on a bank or card statement will suffice. Sale of Goods covers items up to 7 years - I got refunded for a couch that fell asunder after at least 5 years.

I'd agree with that for the most part but once I saw a sight that turned my stomach and that will be forever etched in my brain (unfortunately).

Dublin airport 7am, queueing for the check-in desk, half asleep (having got up at, like, 3am). A party of Germans (none of them pregnant!) ahead of me opened a jar of large gherkins and started eating them straight from the jar as they were, plucking them out of the brine with their fingers. I had to look away or I'd have thrown up. I couldn't do anything about the smell, either.

Now, I usually like gherkins, on their own or with cheese or in some potato salads. But for breakfast, on an empty stomach, at that time of the morning? There ought to be a law.
