Irish Presenters You Like

Seems like we all detest anyone and everyone in Irish media!

Is there anyone you like? PJ and Jim on Classic hits 4FM are pretty good and I like Ivan Yates on Newstalk.
In terms of the telly Ryan Tubridy isn't bad at all, hardly his fault if the best guests RTE can get are from the canteen.

First they came for the socialists...

I have to disagree OP, Ryan Tubridy can be terrible.

    Mary Kennedy
    Ian Dempsey

Apart from Yates maybe, the rest are a bad start to this thread anyway :)

Fair enough, I don't be glued to him on TV or radio but the few times I do watch the Late Late I can't complain. To be fair I don't like chat shows anyway so I'm no pundit in that regard.

    Ian Dempsey definitely.

Dermot and Dave are funny, but can get a bit samey.

    Podge and Rodge.

Ryan is awful because he does not listen to his guests but rattles through his list of prepared questions which leads to awkward silences, disjointed interviews and his inability to react.

Its why anyone with any brain has turned him inside out.

Tommy Tiernan was very impressive in his show reacting to guests.

Ya, he’s great on the old opinion box. Extremely intelligent, always has his research done, and with excellent diction.

Keelin Shanley, straight forward, crisp, and to the point no dragging things out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,503 ✭✭✭✭Mad_maxx

    Darragh maloney

    John creedon

    Mary Kennedy

D4 lady with the mole who is a presenter on ear to the ground and has embraced all things "the bog"

Nial boylan, he's not amazing by any means but within the context of the uber PC Irish media, the man is a revolutionary

Dave Fanning, he's a music and movies nerd but that's ok

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,825 ✭✭✭LirW

I think Keith Walsh is doing a decent job for the fact that he works with Bernard O'Shea and Jennifer Zamparelli.

I also like that one lady on Nova, forgot her name.

And I'll get myself shot on here but I think overall Eoghan McDermot is doing his job pretty well. I know it's not popular liking any RTE presenters, but he's having his show on the best slot of the week which is the perfect opportunity to talk about things the average sheltered office clerk doesn't often think about. I think he does a good job and he is very smart in how he hosts the show.
That said, his "Love you bye" makes me cringe.

Oh and I absolutely love John Kelly on Lyric FM, I think he's my favourite.

True but his anti trump crusade smacks of shilling, suspect he is obeying the meme

Absolutely love John Creedon. He just comes across as such a gentleman and engages so well with everyone. Very down to earth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,554 ✭✭✭valoren

Marty Whelan. He has the perfect charisma for light entertainment shows like Winning Streak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭ Caiden Old Pancake

    John Creedon

    Daragh Moloney

    Brian Dobson

This - add Ian Dempsey /Paul Mcloone/ed Smith

I would’ve had Matt Cooper but he’s gone far left over the last few years and his interview style has been softened (used to be a tough/good interview but never seems to challenge anyone on left side now)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 442 ✭✭SexBobomb

John Creedon and Dave Fanning two guys that seem to have a genuine love of music and their job
I forgot Ed Smith his show is great

Moncrief is good, can be funny and doesn't take himself too seriously.

Ivan yates too, an absolute WUM

I like kilbane on off the ball too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭KungPao

Having thought about it, I’ll have to go with none of them.

    Gerry Ryan was alright though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭Dublin Spur

Yeats is quality, very sharp and doesn't take himself too seriously
    Quite like Matt Cooper too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,134 ✭✭✭jimwallace197

I attended two conventions where Ivan Yeates was speaking and strangely enough I found him much better in person than on the radio, he was quite charismatic with the audience and came across very well, funny too.

Pat Kenny is probably the best we have currently, knowledgeable, usually is able to see both sides of the argument and impartial too. His voice is easy to listen to which is always a bonus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,313 ✭✭✭✭branie2

    The late Gerry Ryan
    John Creedon
    Ryan Tubridy (controversial I know)
    Gay Byrne
    Miriam O'Callaghan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭cavemeister

    For me, its:

Pat Kenny - Never try to bullsh!t him, he knows his facts and figures backwards.
Sharon Ni Bheolain - A total pro
Yasmine Akram - Her sense of humor just cracks me up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,237 ✭✭✭✭RMAOK

    Daragh Moloney

    +1

Michael lyster, before he had to retire.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Atoms for Peace

    John Creedon

    Daragh Moloney

    Brian Dobson

Brian Dobson's infamous Bertie interview has forever sullied his reputation.

I like Hector on the TG4 travel shows that he does.

    John Creeden for president.

RTE definitely needs some fresh faces that are actually qualified for the job rather than pulling in anybody with more that 5k followers on instagram (further inflating their already over hyped ego's)

John Creedon & Sean Moncrieff are two that seldom disappoint.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,943 ✭✭✭Deebles McBeebles

Moncrieff, Paul Williams, Tom Dunne at times (guess what radio station I listen to).

The Off The Ball and Team 33 lads are decent too.

And genuinely, Gerry Ryan, he is missed. Got me through many a morning in work.

    John Creedon.

PJ and Jim on Classic Hits in the mornings.

    Radio
Pat Kenny - Ultimate current affairs presenter
Mary Wilson - Smart, asks the right questions
Ian Dempsey - one of the few who can do the 'happy go lucky and jovial' presenter naturally
Joe Molloy - Does really excellent 1 to 1 interviews.
John Creedon - Can't help but relax when listening to him
Ivan Yates - Does not give a toss in terms of unpopular opinions. I often disagree with him, but enjoy the debates they lead to.
Aedin Gormley - One of the most beautiful voices on the radio.
Tom Dunne - His love for music is evident (and loved his BC satire from back in the day)

    Television
Darragh Moloney - Not quite BOH but consistent in his own style and is professional
Joanne Cantwell - Professional. Lovely diction.
Sharon Ni Bheloain - Consistently professional
Brednan O'Connor - Loved his interview style. The cue cards were only something to fiddle in his hands, he let the interview go where it was interesting.

    Ian Dempsey
    John Creedon
    Larry Gogan
    Dave Fanning
    Marty Whelan
    Ivan Yates
    Ronan Collins

Thumbs up to them. Don't always agree with their takes but they have integrity, avoid making it all about them, and seek to entertain. Creedon, Dempsey, Collins, Whelan, and Gogan are real DJs who can play obscure non-chart stuff if they feel like it. Without that radio is dead.

That would be the same Paul Williams that was very conspicuous in his absence when the story blew up about senior Garda using journalists to push stories about Garda whistleblowers ?

One of nicest and most laid back seems to be John Creedon and he appears to be in same mould as the late Derek Davis.

As for the rest most of them are over opionated arrogant muppets that just follow a group think.
The Peter Casey election coverage spoke volumes about our media.

I am not allowed discuss …

Was just saying last night how "touchy-feely"Mary Kennedy was on the program - is it Nationwide? So watched a bit more and decided she seems like a very nice person. Wife met her a few times and said she's actually very friendly.

John Creedon, Ronan Collins (have listened to him since the first days of Radio2FM great DJ).

Darragh Moloney, Marty Whelan (on the radio) - saw him out shopping one day, and an old dear approached him, and he was so friendly to her, could have been someone he knew, or not, but I think he was very personable.
Sharon of course, very good speaker, same for Keelin Shanley.

Its a very good question,OP, because my top of the head response would be, they're all sh!te, until I actually stopped to think about it.
