    Not terribly fit....obviously

Did a 20 min workout yesterday, thank you Joe, and today I can barely walk. As in agony. I stupidly did half an hour on the exercise bike after :( Felt ok at the time :p

I am talking actual pain, have to go downstairs on my bum pain.

What can I do for quick relief other than panadol please :D

Just gonna have to suck it up. Go for a walk tomorrow. Even if its a strange waddle. Then get back into it

Go for a 10 minute walk right now.

You need to loosen up and get the muscles and joints gently moving. Then go for a longer walk tomorrow.

Make sure you are staying hydrated too.

Happens to a lot of us even it we've been training longer. Not so long since I've dreaded having to go to the jacks because it was sore enough to sit down that I couldn't countenance getting back up and would end up like Elvis.

Don’t pack in the training!! Doesn’t matter how ‘unfit’ you think you are cos we all feel that pain no matter how long we are training. No pain no gain. Refueling on protein after training is suppose to combat DOMS so try a protein shake or snack

Stretch. Do a few squats. The first few will be agony but it will losen you up. Take it slowly. If you injure yourself you may end up giving up. There is plenty of time.

You have DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness. If you haven't exercised in a while, or you exercised at an intensity you're not used to, this is the result. Lots of little microtears in your muscles.

Stretching and foam rolling helps (though this is better before/after your workout rather than hours later or the next day).

It won't be as bad going forward if you stick to a good structured schedule.

And in my experience, no matter how sore you are before your next workout, you'll feel fine after 5 minutes on the elliptical and a few stretches and will be able to carry on with your workout.

It may not be. The day after will be better though. The best thing you can do is keep moving.

I'm getting this a lot worse in recent months

I've recently started doing two things.

    1. finish a work out with foam rolling
    2. always get protein after training

    I definitely see some improvement.

by the way the second day after training is usually worse.

You need to talk to Joe..
If Joe is a personal trainer then he might have over done your training relative to your ability and fitness..
The fact that you done 30 mins on a spin bike after might have actually benefited you, as it not impact and would have helped with circulation.
As is pointed out you have DOMS.. this is microscopic tears in the muscle, and they will need time to heal. Contrary to believe no amount of stretching before or after the excersies will prevent you get getting them if you over do the training. You're better off doing a small bit often rather that to much on occasion.
As op have said try do a gentle walk, this will easy the soreness some what..

My only way of talking to Joe (Wicks) !!! is to put the dvd back in the box for a bit and ignore him :D

Hope to god I feel better by Friday as I have a long day of walking. I'm scared to do any more this week.

    and squat,

    and squat again

i thought my gym instructor was mad given I could hardly walk/move/sit

but believe it or not it loosened everything up so much so I was able to do a boxercise class, lol

got out of bed the next day, still sore, did a few more squats (gentle ones) and again it worked

I also take a shake after a workout

Warm up properly, warm down properly and get loads of active recovery in.

Ok,feeling much better and not in agony when I walk. Going to start again tomorrow, but a bit less enthusiastic.

SQUAT SQUAT!!!! I could barely get downstairs! I think I was an eager beaver, I will try again, and move a bit more afterwards, maybe that will help. :D

that's what I said to him, you've got to be kidding me :D

BUT after about a minute of me refusing to even try, I did try and believe it or not my arse and thighs did thaw out, lol

consistency and frequency is more important than intensity performed inconsistently
